New Helmet! YES! AGV GP-TECH

Well, I ordered a new helmet last Friday and it finally arrived. I felt like this needed to be shared. LOL

The helmet is solidly built. Much better than my current helmet. Everything from the padding to the straps are solidly built. Cant wait to actually test this thing out.

Here are some photos.

A side by side shot of my helmets.

Thanks. Pictures just dont do this helmet any justice. The colors are so vibrant, and the attention to detail is unmatched, especially with so much going on in a helmet.

Is that your current helmet on the left? Looks good to me. If not exactly the same.

AGV is one of those brands you dont hear about often but the quality surprises me just as often.

Yes the one on the left is my current. The shape of the helmets are very similar because it is the entry helmet and borrows a lot of features from the GP-Tech (the one on the right). They are both meant for the tuck position.

On another note, I cant say Ive ever walked into a motorcycle store where they carried AGV helmets.

Just some specs for the people who look for safety ratings, the new helmet is:

AGV GP-Tech

*DOT
*ECE 22.05
*SHARP 5 Star Rating
*ACU Gold

So what was wrong with the other one then that you would call it less solidly built?

There is nothing wrong with my current helmet (i still plan to where the shiiit out of it), however, you can tell immediately the difference in build quality just by holding the two helmets in your hands and on your head. This is probably due to the reasons listed below:

K3 Shell - High resistant Thermoplastic
Gp Tech Shell - SSL (Super-Super-Light) Karbon-Kevlar

K3 Fabrics - No IDEA
Gp-Tech Fabrics - CoolMax

Gp-Tech is also a triple shell helmet XS,S ; M, L; XL, XXL
K3- Single Shell for all sizes with different padding inside to suit the head size.

Also, the retention system on this thing is quite beefy. I can only imagine the type of force it took to snap off the retention system in Marco Simoncelli's helmet.

Maybe Ill rip apart the internals here and snap some photos to show the difference. lol

Ah I see. Wasnt aware they were completely different models. They look so similar. Really shows you cant judge a helmet by their pictures and that you must see a helmet in person.

Nice helmet. Can't really say that I'd wear it or that I know who number 46 is but if you're a colorful kinda person, I can see it being cool.

There is a guy who races that has the same helmet. He doesn't seem to be doing that good. Hope you can ride better than he does.

Yeah, I cant deny it. Its been an awful year for him. Hopefully Ducati and Rossi figure something out for the upcoming 2012 season and a return to the liter bikes.

A throwback. Notice the number 1 on his leathers. He had that from 2001-2005; 2008-09. Hopefully he will wear it again. lolol

I've like that helmet since it came out. Great design as always from Drudi. I just picked up a K3 to throw into the weekly rotation, definitely can tell between the two like you mentioned although the K3 is still pretty darn nice Now I'm just trying to find a bright/ridiculous helmet for track/canyon days.

Yeah man, love this helmet design. I did a quick ride with the Gp-Tech, I dont think ill be wearing it during the colder months. It will definitely be strictly for summer riding. Moves so much air, and is surprisingly just as quiet when compared to the K3. Ill be riding the hell out of my K3.

My next helmet ive planned already, will be a Lorenzo replica. lol

I got it off ebay. The guy makes custom ones also, you just need to ask/request.

I like the sticker too, I went with the tried and true local graphics man for all of my helmets:

Put some time in behind the new helmet. It feels great and just very very light. Its surprisingly quiet compared to the K3, which imo, is a very quiet helmet. The field of view is excellent and works well while tucked. For those wondering, the fitment is almost exactly like a SHoei RF1100.

So you would recommend the K3? I'm thinking of picking one up. I quite like the design and the white "Gothic" graphics...

I definitely recommend the K3. Here is the review that sold me on it.

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motor...helmet/agv-k3/

This helmet fits similar to a shoei rf1100, so, if you can fit one of those, then you will most likely fit this.

Also the GOTHIC is slick.

EDIT: Its also worth mentioning that for the same price, you can pick up a more robust version of the K3, The K4. Whether or not it has Rossi graphics though, I do not know.

Yes, aiming for a large. It was just generally too loose! I could rotate it side to side, tilt it up and down, move it horizontally, a bit vertically... I have a video, but it's really shameful .

I'm just hoping a large fits. We'll see by the end of the week!

i have the K3, while the paint job and graphic looks real nice (a lot nicer than Shoei and Arai imo, but that's subjective), the padding is one of the worst I have. It kinda kinda like a piece of sandpaper rubbing against my face, and I have plenty of entry helmets to compare from. Also the visor oddly fog up easily.

it's still one of the nicest looking helmet, easily mistaken for a GP or Ti Tech.
