gauge lights on a 2009 Ninja
I was wondering, I rode my 2009 Ninja 250 at night for the first time, and I don't have any gauge lights, the signals etc all work fine but I have no illumination on the fuel, tach or speedo. Is that normal? I don't think it is. I couldn't see how fast I was going on the unlit highway at night. Your thoughts? Any help appreciated. -Marquise

Dude, check your fuse's under your seat to see if you have a blown fuse. It should be lighted. This is not normal.

yeah they should light up! If you have a chance make take it to the steelership and make them pay for the fuse since they sold it to you with a bad fuse.

Yeah I figured as much. I gave them a call already they're really great at Bow Cycle in Calgary. I will check the fuse just in case it may be a bulb or something. Thanks everyone! -M

Just noticing your profile pic...
I also have one of the black bikes and love the Monster graphics...where did you find them? I would really like to put that on my bike!

I can't win
Ok not good news, I just picked my bike up, they had it since Friday noon, the bill was $249 but I was pissed he reduced it to $191. They wanted to charge me 1 hour to r&r all cowling to change the one bulb. I told him that was ridiculous so he charged me 0.5H and the $3 bulb. NOW the speedo lights up but the tach/fuel don't, do they have backlights too? My husband FREAKED when he saw the bill (it's gonna get nasty) and he said the tach/fuel should have their own light too I also had a screeching noise they said was the water pump "spooling" no fault found $116.00

Did you take it back to a Kawasaki dealer? If so, all those items should have been covered under warranty if your bike is less than 12 months old. I'm assuming the warranty is the same in Canada as in the US. |

It is a Kawi dealer and the one I bought it from. It is 2 months old with 1978 km on it.

You should not have to pay a dime for this, and they should have completely fixed it as well, if your current dealer does not want to do this it may be worth it to go out of your way to find a new dealer.

gauge lights inop
Man this gets better every time. I took the bike BACK to Bow Cycle with the gauge lights they didn't fix (tach and fuel), which they FINALLY replaced, and the screaming engine noise. (More on that later) I ride 285 km and the GODDAMN tach light burns out. I told them it has a wiring issue and now they said we're not fixing it again because we didn't get paid by Kawasaki last time. AWESOME. I ordered a friggin SHOP manual, took 3 bulbs and I will FIX IT MYSELF

This is a strange thread. I'm incredulous about how poorly you've been treated by Kawasaki so far. It's clear that the current dealer you're working with is just not cutting it. The easy recommendation is just "find another one", but that may be a useless thought if there really isn't another one anywhere nearby.

I did a google search, and while most of the kawasaki places that it told me about seem to be near Edmonton, it listed a cycle works near you who seems to be pretty large, maybe give them a call?

my tach light is out, but I made my peace with it a while ago as I don't use it anyway. That really sucks that the dealership is being so true to stereotypes. Hope you get it fixed.

Marquise, perhaps Blackfoot Motosports might be a better dealership to go to in the future. It's closer to you, for one (SE Calgary), and I've gotten decent service from them so far.
Pro-Am Motorsports is supposedly the best Kawi dealership in Calgary, but they are a bit more north. There is also Chunk Motorsports in High River, but I've never actually been down there. This post has successfully deterred me from ever going to Bow Cycle. |

I would check to see if there isn't a short circuit somehere if it keeps blowing those lights..a pinched wire with exposed insulation behind the dash for example. Are any of the fuses blowing ? I believe the 10amp Ignition fuse covers these lights.

gauge lights blowing out
Oh it gets better. The tach light blew out AGAIN after 285 km, another 200 km and the fuel gauge light blew out again. How much you want to bet the damn thing is overcharging? I will pull off the seat and check MYSELF. Pretty sad. -Marquise

No fuses blown, simply the light bulb fried. The bike was delivered to me minus working dash lights. Bloody alternator is probably taking out those little 194 bulbs

How about getting a cheap used rectifier off eBay and seeing if this helps assuming your checking the voltage return to the battery shows numbers above the usual 13.4-6V at all rpm levels ?

I may give Blackfoot a try, that's where I bought my 2007 KLX250 from. I have been to Chunk Motorsports in High River they seem pretty good. Thanks! -M

Steelerships!!!
I agree, I cannot believe after spending the extra money on a NEW bike with full warranty (plus extended) so I wouldn't HAVE to worry or work on it this is what I get. I could have gotten a 3 yr old 636 for $1000 less I haven't even TOUCHED on the screeching noise the bike is making either....

warranty woes
I did, I paid $191.00 the FIRST time and then it went back to them AGAIN when tach/fuel gauge light STILL were inop... They didn't charge me the second time but grumbled how THEY wouldn't get paid by Kawi for it
