Pilot Jet screwdriver size

Does anybody know what size screwdriver fits? I used a 3/16 cabinet tip tonight like I did on my old carb and it damaged them while I was taking them off. I don't remember it damaging them when I used what I believe was the same screwdriver last time(bought another one from lowes after I lost the first one).

I have a 1/8 but its a little loose. Will a 5/32 work?

I thought they were all JIS screws, so none of the normal US sizings are a perfect match.

I figured it might be metric. I've never seen a metric flat head though. Do you have any idea what size it takes?

I don't, but I hope someone comes along shortly to help us both out.

Look no further than your local Home Depot (or equivalent).

Rather than thrashing around trying to find real no-shiite JIS drivers you can just pick up the two smallest sizes of drywall driver bits at Home Depot. Their profile is almost identical to that of the JIS drivers.

You'll never 'cam-out' another carb screw.

Will have to look into that to get my stuck pilot jets out. Glad I live a 5 min. walk from the hardware store!

Apparently there is no such thing as a flat head jis screwdriver.

Quote:
JIS screw drivers are only cruciform (Phillips-like). The flat head drivers needed for removing jets and adjusting pilot mixture screw are Hitachi or Mukuni proprietery bits. There was a post recently about buying these sets, but the common practice is to get a cheap set of screw drivers and grind them.
http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/p=331827.html

I checked out sears yesterday and the craftsman professional 1/8 and 3/16 both seemed to fit pretty well. The regular craftsman not so much. The 3/16 would probably need to be filed down some to fit into the carb.

Both Lowe's and Harbor freight had 5/32 in sealed packages so I couldn't try them. Sears had a 5/32 but it wasn't the professional line and it didn't fit that well. I think maybe the reason the last time I used the lowes 3/16 and it worked is because of the poor tolerances on these cheap screwdrivers.

Anyways, I ended up wrapping the 1/8 I had in a tissue and using it to tighten the new jets in. My bike is up and running now after having cleaned the carb out twice. Need to sync the carbs, change the oil and tighten the chain and then it should be road worthy.

I think he's referring to the phillips heads on the bowls. Those bits look like phillips which won't work on the jets.
