Is it safe to top-off original brake fluid?

It seems as though my front brake reservoir is running a little low on brake fluid, so I was wondering whether it was safe to top-off the original brake fluid? If topping off brake fluid is acceptable, what type of fluid should I use?

Also, My front brake pads do need to be replaced urgently (EBCHH on order), but will the new pads change how much fluid rests in the reservoir?

Current odometer: 13000km/8000miles

the thicker pads will push some fluid back into the reservoir. using dot 3 or 4 fluid it is ok to top it off but do not over fill it. no need for a flush yet.

My level seems to be dropping and I can see that the surfaces around the reservoir look like they've been bubbled up but I don't see any fluid or wetness. I'm going to have to take care of that soon.

It still seems full (small bubble at the top is only a little bigger) but I recently noticed that the level dives down to nothing when I brake. I know some just sloshes forward, but is this normal?

3/4 should be interchangeable (just don't get 5), but if it's the original brake fluid, I'd flush it. It's generally not ideal to mix old and new brake fluid. You should be replacing brake fluid every two years so your 09 is due and it only takes like 10 minutes to do

I'll be heading to the track in a couple days for the first time, so I wasn't interested in messing around with the brake fluid until after the track day (as it would be my first brake flush, albeit it does seem to be quite simple).

Thanks for the replies. My plan now is to install the new brake pad, then re-evaluate whether or not my motorcycle requires any additional brake fluid.
