Exhaust question
Exhaust question--
I'm getting my exhaust this week for my 08 250r, just curious if I need my bike jetted for that. some are saying I do, others say I don't have to. Either way it will be jetted either this week or the week after, I'm just wondering if I should wait for the jets before I get the exhaust. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...50R-Parts.aspx

just a slipon shouldn't do any damage if you don't rejet. you've still got a catalytic converter in your mid pipe restricting the majority of the flow so changing the can at the end doesn't make too big of a change outside of sound.

as a side note, might i suggest spending only a little bit more and getting a full pipe? you'll get much more power out of your further modifications and jetting... if you do get a full pipe you'll want to rejet at the same time, otherwise the bike wont run well and you'll risk screwing up the internals

In my personal opinion, that slip on isn't very good.
Here is my reasoning. It's loud.. way way way too loud. It almost sounds like straight pipes. All you'll do is draw unwanted attention to yourself and end up staying in the lower rpm to be at reasonable audio levels. Switching back to my stock system was one of the best things I've done so far. I'm now able to ride at 12k rpm without worrying about noise levels too much. Even if you get it, 250r runs lean from factory and this exhaust will make it even more lean. It would be recommended you shim the needles anyways. You are much much better off buying a full system. If price is an issue, there are a couple really solid full systems for reasonable prices. I personally recommend the Sportisi exhausts. They look/sound great and don't cost a fortune. Don't be scared of rejetting/shimming if you need to. Plenty of help here on these forums that should make it relatively simple (just time consuming). I'll be doing a full system install and rejet as soon as my Sportisi VR carbon comes in. I'm really bad at mechanical things but still feel confidant enough with the DIY guides here.

I have this can and it will not need a change of jetting. But if you let more air in, like high flow race only filter and a set of high flow pipes, you need to let more gas to your mixture or you will run too lean, you will need jetting. But I can tell you that for this bike, for the sound that we get out of it, and the looks, you will be content enough with the growler only.

I'm sorry members of ninjette, I mistook Kelley for a girl. But in my defense: I know only one other guy by the name of kelley, and 99.9% of Kelley's I know are girls. I think Im gonna get the Area P full system, K&N filter, and Area P's custom jet kit.. Thanks for the input though, this forum has been a lot of help since I got my bike. Thanks a lot guys!

honestly, I can't see why new owners spend so much money on other stuff as their first mods instead of attending to improving the power delivery on this bike as the first priority. Choosing a quality, full system and installing a jet kit is tops in my book. Mark, no problems about the name... I get that a lot. |
