Horn button quickshifter?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone in production (stock) class racing has made the unused horn button into a kill switch to act as a quickshifter for shifts at WOT?

I've heard guys used to do this a lot back in the day, but also apparently some guy did it in superstock 600 ASBK last year as you can't run a quickshifter in stock classes.

I'm thinking you could just splice the actual kill switch wires, but there could be more involved.
http://www.racegadgets.com/buttonshifter.html Here is one to purchase, but it ends up being 188GBP, which is way more then I want to spend on it

the horn switch and the kill switch are both SPST switches, but the kill switch needs to be on when the button is not pressed, unlike the horn button. so you need to use a spst relay in series with the kill switch that is default closed, then hook the relay up to the horn wiring so when its on it opens the relay, killing the ignition. or you could modify the horn switch.

I kind of understand what you are saying, but I haven't had much experience with relays and don't really understand them. Let me know how you go with it, and if you could throw up a schematic that would be great

You'll want an IC chip to limit it's cutout time regardless of how long you hold the button. Graves Motorsports made them for their AMA supermoto bikes.

This concept is interesting to me. (new rider, and only ever clutch/no clutch shifted)
i would love to see a first person video of this mod in action.

I was thinking something like that but wasn't sure. I'll ask my bro as his new moto3 came with a push button quick shifter ( so he quickly had to order a proper one!)

wouldnt be too hard to make a tunable timer circuit for it... 555 timer triggering a high power transistor. hell you could even just use a timer capacitor with a pull down and a potentiometer to control how fast it discharges...
