2017 Vetter Fuel Economy Challenge @ AMA Vintage Days

I'll be making my annual trip out to compete in the Vetter Challenge on July 8, 2017. The details are here http://www.schultzengineering.us/. I look forward to meeting up with other ninjetters who may be at the AMA Vintage Days.
@snot, @csmith12, @choneofakind ?

I gotta defend my title! Please wish me luck, I'll need it this year.

We will be on the sumo's. Are you staying at the track? We can meet you for lunch or dinner or hangout after the races Saturday before we go back to our room.

Hi Ray, Will you be at the AMA Vintage Days? We compete tomorrow morning but will drop by the racetrack after the Vetter Challenge. I'll be a speaker on
Sunday 11;30 to 1:30.

I spent this morning fixing damage to my streamliner from a severe windstorm I encountered traveling through Colorado. Lots of rain, hope that it stays mostly dry tomorrow.

Again, Any one interested in riding with us during the Vetter Challenge, show up at 8 AM tomorrow morning to the rear of the Splash Harbor Motel in Bellview, OH on Hwy 97.
@snot, @csmith12, I'm sending you PMs with my contact info.

all the best, GA

I got home Saturday afternoon after the long trek back from Ohio. ALan and went to Michigan to visit the Ford Museum and Greenfield for a couple of days.

The Vetter Challenge had 12 riders including 3 electric motos, 3 streamliners , and 2 partially streamlined motos. Beating the electric bikes is tough since the Vetter Challenge is won by the lowest cents/mile rather than miles/gallon. After lots of rain we had a perfect day for riding on our 94 mile course ( Bellview to Wooster to Loudonville to Mid-Ohio to Bellview). It was a wonderful ride and I was optimistic about another good performance. After topping off the tank I found I had used only 0.4 gallons of gasoline to go the 94 miles for a result of 235 mpg! I was astounded. I know I rode well, maximizing every opportunity to go far as I could with least amount of fuel consumed but I suspect some other factors may have played a role ( heated fuel expansion, topping off error). Still all in all, a great run. After the electric motos calculated their usage I was determined the overall winner at 0.97 cents/mile.

Other highlights were getting to meet @snot and Jason and visit with them at the Vintage Days .I also hoped to meet the legendary motorcycle whisperer @csmith12 but I failed to make the connection. We also got to be part of a panel of seminar presenters about the Vetter Challenge, motorcycle fuel economy and aerodynamic streamlining.
I had a great time and am already forward to next year
all the best, GA

Vic, snot, everyone else that was there... sorry, my plans changed last minute and I didn't get there until 3:30 on Sun. Just in time to see the race where the track was oiled down.

Plan on doing better next year. Bummer to have missed you guys for the 2nd year in a row but 3rd times the charm right?

Gratz on the milestone too!

Thanks !!!

@steiny , sorry I missed you. Feel free to ask me about building a streamliner and I'll do what I can to help. A lot of great info is on the Craig Vetter website , www.craigvetter.com , on building streamliners including mine.

I've already started work for the next Vetter Challenge, I sold my trailer and will build a new one. I also have removed the bodywork from my '99 Ninjette (47K miles) will be selling it and starting the build on a new streamliner.
