Bike has been sitting for 9 months and won't start
Bike has been setting for 9 months and won't start. It seemed at one point it wanted to start. I recharged up the battery. I going to dump out the gas and add fresh gas. Is there anything else I should do?
Thanks |

Here's two pages about that. Sorry about the pictures on the thread from ninjette. The method from the FAQ section of ninja250.org has plenty of pictures though.
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=65198 http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/How_do_...n_the_carbs%3F I recommend soaking them in pine-sol overnight (that's what faq.ninja250.org recommended somewhere in their wiki as a method of soaking them that won't damgae plastic or rubber parts in the carbs) and then using compressed air like kkim recommends. Personally, I wouldn't use a brass wire like the faq recommends. Just me. |

Before you go ripping your bike apart...I'd recommend draining the float bowels first. Put fresh gas in your tank, pour about a bottle full of seafoam, put the tank on "Prime" and drain the float bowels for about 10-15 minutes. After that, put the tank on "ON" and attempt a start.
This is the procedure I used to start my ninja who had been in her beauty slumber for 6 months. Good luck. |

9 months. I hope it was stored inside (i.e. garage). Another 250 I picked up was sitting OUTSIDE for 6 months straight. Ran into all kinds of problems trying to get it started. Kinda still am. But I got it started and idles fine. Gotta test/tune it for track.

Just using Seafoam won't get everything out, but is definitely worth a try. If that doesn't work, then try opening it up and cleaning them manually. At the very least, trying Seafoam will loosen up the gum in the carbs for when you manually clean them.

Been in the garage all this time. Any instructions for draining float bowels. Found some info on another site but for the older Ninjas.

They're the same carbs. There should just be a hex screw on the bottom of the bowl...

SOLVED:
Got it started. Thanks for all the help. What I did: 1.- Empty the gas tank. 2.- 2 fl. oz of CRC Motor Treatment (like Sea Foam). Let it sit with for 5 min. 3.- Added 1 Gallon of Gas (89 octane) . 4.- Choke and after a few cranks it started. |

If it's a carb'd bike that worked before it was put away, and has been stored for a long time, the carbs are clogged/ dirty 99% of the time.
At least that's what the shop told me right when I got my bike and it had been sitting for 4 years. |
