Quick Question About Snorkel Removal

Hi everyone. I have a couple of quick questions about remove the snorkel.

Last week my local shop installed my Area P exhaust and rejetted the carborators with a DynoJet kit.

The new exhaust sounds terrific and I've noticed more power and pick-up, especially at the mid-range. So far so good.

That being said, they did not remove the snorkel, depsite the instructions on the kit saying it should be done.

Should I take the bike back and ask them to remove the snorkel? Are they any disadvantages to keeping it the snorkel in place? What are the advantages of removing the snorkel?

Also I noticed on occassion there's a slight pop-pop-pop-pop sound when I sometimes downshift. It's not loud and sounds quite appealing! Is this normal?

Thank you!

I might be way off, but my train of though comes from cars mainly. My assumption, you're running too lean. That sound is made from what is called valve burn, the more open exhaust reduced the back pressure and over-leaned the engine. Double check your setting from your jet kit, it may sound cool, but it can cause some pretty bad damage if not corrected.

No point taking it back to the shops to remove the snorkle, its a 5min job tops and even a 5 year old could do it.

Heres the DIY: DIY: Removing the Snorkle

I'd take it back on principle alone. If they had read the Dynojet instructions for the jet kit, it tells you to remove the snorkel when you install their jet kit. pull it out and most likely you're bike will pull harder at the upper revs.

http://www.dynojet.com/pdf/2193.pdf

You're backfiring is due to the Kleen system which you should remove when you have a full exhaust and jet kit installed.

At least you didn't say "even a caveman could do it."

Nope, cavemen couldn't do it, since they couldn't read the DIY!

Thank you for the advice everyone.

I'll have the Kleen system removed and see it that puts an ends to the noise. It only seems to happen when I pull in the clutch lever and going downhill.

I spoke with the shop about the snorkel. They stated they have not seen any difference in results with it removed but, did mentioned the snorkel does offer added protection against water entering the airbox. It rains a lot here on Vancouver Island, so I'll keep it in for now.

What would the effect be on a Fuel Injection version of the bike? - Since rejetting or anything like that isn't needed and the air/fuel mixture is adjusted on the fly by the fuel injection, more airflow means more hp?
