Insurance comparison

I'm just curious what was the difference for you going from your 250 to your bigger cc bike?

I just got a quote from my State Farm rep. Max liability coverage and uninsured/underinsured coverage + $500 collision on my 250 is 140/6 months. The same coverage + $500 comprehensive on my r6 is $172/6 months. Only $32 difference. I'm willing to bet for the same coverage (no comprehensive), my insurance on the r6 would be lower than the ninja's insurance. LOL

Payed 500 a year for full coverage on my Ninja, 850 for my R6.

I just switched my State Farm from my 1971 Yamaha 125 to the ninja I just bought and mine went from 7.57 to 8.54 for 6 months. Minimum liability, delete uninsured motorist.

I guess it depends on where you live, but I wouldn't ride a motorcycle without uninsured/underinsured max coverage.

You must not value financial security all that much.

I still have the 250... added my 03 ZX-6R... I was paying $42/mo full coverage on the 250 alone... adding the ZX-6R raised my rates to $67/mo with the exact same coverage on both bikes.

Wish I had the luck you guys have. I paid around $250 I think for my ninja for the year but with the same options on a supersport, I'm quoted around $134 a month.

I just got a quote of under $200/yr for a 2008 Speed Triple, which is over twice what I pay for the Ninja, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I also realized that I need to change from "commuting" use to "pleasure", which should drop my rate even more.

Yea, scam.

<---- That was only 78k for the hospital stay, stupid scam payed for all of it, meanwhile that deal on minimum liability would hardly cover a sprained ankle

Health insurance would probably be a hell of a lot cheaper than full coverage motorcycle insurance that includes medical expenses...

1) drop to state minimum coverage
2) stop getting speeding tickets
3) be over 25 and/or female

Must be some kickass medical if it pays for any work you have to miss, fixes your bike, fixes any people you run over, yea all that. Good luck with that

I feel lucky seeing what you guys are all paying for your bigger bikes, my insurance cut in half for the same policy when I bought my cbr.

your cbr is also an 03, ive found a HUGE difference in prices if i were to buy an older bike (04,05) vs an 11 or 12. when my 250 was brand new i was paying about 500 a year, the following year it dropped to 250, my gfs ninja which is an 08 is about 150.

Current renewal for the 250 with my current company £928 basic (3x last year with one more year's NCB)
Same company on a 2005 CBR600 £342

New company on the 250; £311 for £1,000,000 (over 1.6 mil USD) liability, fire & theft. With international breakdown, helmet & leathers cover & uninsured/road rage cover it totals to £420

Hmm...The '07 rr I was looking at wasnt a whole lot higher than my f4i for insurance, now the '04 r6 I was looking into is a different story. I would have been paying more than I was on the 250 for insurance. It does definitely depend on the bike you are looking at, though.

I suppose at '07 you could kind of add it to the list of 'older bikes,' but it is not quite there in my book.

thats true, but if i quote an 11 or 12 zx6 vs an 07, my insurance goes down quite a bit was all i noticed, not based on the 250 mind you, just the general increase to my insurance since im keeping the 250 on it. My 250 is a 2011, so the first year it was insured i was paying about 450 for the year, the following year it went down around 200 bucks. You could say its due to no accidents, but i just think the year of the bike has a lot to do with it as well. That the crappy thing about the ninja 1000, it came out in 2011, so i cant really find anything older than that since thats the bike i want. Quoting a 2012 and 2011 ninja 1000 i get a 600 dollar difference as well, which is why im looking to buy an 11.

I slightly dread owning a litre bike, I have decided after I complete basic training next year I will be getting a new Fireblade as long as the insurance doesnt kill me...for now the 600 class is suffacing my need for power I agree with your point of year, to insure my '94 Ninja 600 my price was next to nothing, my vfr was a different story.

The ninja 1000's are awesome bikes, I could not imagine owning one and using it as a daily driver after seeing what Jiggles is paying, thats a little outrageous! Same goes for my friends r1, he's paying a little over $2,000/year, maybe I should just stick to driving a car...

Just as an FYI, over half of my insurance cost was for collision coverage (with the maximum coverages that I could get from Progressive).

If I only had comprehensive and liability, I could have gotten away with only paying a little less than $400.

Mine is $650 a year for my sv650, and that's with comprehensive, collision, and no uninsured driver.

It was $550 for the 250 when I had it.

I'm only 21...

Saw a sweet deal for a 07 Ninja 650 so I decided to run some costs on an upgrade. Costs me $207 (or $211, too lazy to look) for middle of the road coverage, uninsured and cc with Progressive. The same coverage for the 650 would run me $384 for the year. Not as bad as I imagined.

$100/yr

I pay $100/yr for liabality + uninsured / underinsured / hit & run for my 07 ninja 250 w/ a $300 deduct for hit & run, $200 for uninsured/underinsured. This is w/o a multi-policy discount, 0 months riding, w/ motorcycle safety course, age 22, they don't seem to care much (in $ amts) if you passed the BSC (team-oregon, our version of MSF, has a pretty high failure rate, in my class alone, about 1/3 failed out). I have never filed a claim or got a speeding ticket, though, which may be affecting things.

My zip code is 97478, I live in Springfield, Oregon (basically home of the Ducks).

Not bad, but if you're going w/ progressive and want any extra coverage, make sure you know how they're covering you (how they value things) so if you get totaled, they don't throw you $500. They're in the business of making money, not losing it.

What is considered full coverage? I'm getting my bike on Friday and got a quote yesterday for $150/yr. That's with

50K person/100K accident/25k property damage.

Here's everything else:
Uninsured Motorist: No coverage

Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury:No coverage

Income Loss & Disability:No coverage

Medical Payments:No coverage

Transport Trailer:No coverage

Physical Damage Options:Actual Cash Value

Comprehensive:$250 Deductible

Collision:$250 Deductible

Roadside Assistance: Selected

Accessory coverage: 3K

Will that work?

No, get higher liability limits of 250/500 and uninsured/underinsured of the same amount
