Allstate- wrong bike model?
I currently have Geico for my 2012 250R, and lately I've been shopping around to see if I can save some money elsewhere. I logged on to Allstate's site and was shocked to customize my policy to match my current one and find a rate of $840 for the year (22 y/o male, NY). It seemed that something had to be messed up.
Upon further inspection I discovered that the only Ninja 250 model they have in their system for me to select is "2012 Kawasaki EX250-F19 Ninja R". This is clearly wrong, as I have a 2012 EX250JCF. A quick Google search confirms the difference- type in EX250-F19 and you get a 2005 Ninja. I figured that them not having the right bike listed at my home address is the reason my policy quote was much lower than expected, but I talked with a rep online and gave them my bike's VIN, and their system still spit out the EX250-F19. The rep said that the VIN is the one matched to the bike in the event of a claim (her exact words). In conclusion, WTF? Anybody else with Allstate go through this sort of problem? Obviously the lower policy attracts me, but I know Allstate doesn't have a great rate reputation in NY and the fact that I can't even choose my bike's proper name from a drop-down makes it more sketchy. I'd love some advice/insight from anybody familiar with this. Is what the rep said about the VIN being matched to the bike in the event of a claim accurate? Obviously the biggest concern here is that if something does happen, they look at my EX250JCF and call bullshit because that;s not the exact name they have on my policy. |

Seems like Geico is going to lose a customer. If Allstate has the VIN, has a choice for a 2012 Ninja 250, and they are giving you a quote based on that information, you're good to go.
The model #'s vary a bit, depending on the marketing code & whether it's a California model. I thought NY was selling California-spec vehicles for a few years now, right? But yes, the 2008-2012's are typically referred to as the J models, or the K models for the overseas/FI version of those same years.

I have progressive and mine reads EX250-J. When i was shopping around StateFarm quote says EX250 JAF SP, i could not find allstate, esurance, farmers, aaa, nationwide, and the other insurance companies i was quoted on. First part of VIN says JKA before the EXMJ... I do not think with the correct model that your price will go down, in my experience with insurance companies that it will mostly go up a few because it is new. And the R at the end of 250 = bad. I have been told this many times. Dont go with progressive they do not pay if anything happens - one from experience (cars and bikes) and two i have family who own dealership and coll shop in AZ and they have to go thru hoops to fix their clients cars who have prog.
All insurance companies are garabge. My reccomendation is to try to shoot for AllState, they have best reputation from the people i have asked. Hope this info helps or if anyone can build on it.

Same here , i got quoted by allstate for a totally different bike.
I think in the end you will be ok because the payout will be paid according to the adjuster who goes out to look at your bike in case an incident comes out

I have Allstate. I don't remember what it said when I was getting quotes, but on my insurance card they have it as the "J" model.

Wait, $840 is a good rate? Glad I'm getting older, and live in the sticks... I think I'm under $200 a year.

First off you guys do realize this thread is over a year old, right?
And I think that's why the OP added in his age, gender, and location. Apparently young guys on motorcycles in New York get hosed on insurance. Never complaining about my <$200 premium with State Farm.
