LW trackday sessions - Portland

So, for any of the NW Ninjetters, OMRRA and OPRT are running the Friday trackdays before race weekends this year. An interesting part of this is that they'll be running a lightweight specific group for most rounds! No more passing OMGGixxerbro in the corners, only to get smoked on the straightaway and then see his poorly-taped brakelight again by turn 2!

Now, you just have to worry about being that guy for a vintage racer who can ride the skinny-ass wheels off his CB160 .

So 4th-group is new? They cut out 5-minutes from previous schedule to add this group?

Nice side-effect is reducing size of all groups. With just 35 per group, you'd probably see maybe 2-4 others during entire session? That's how it is at Laguna Seca which limits groups to 35 per session.

I'm going to have to try that track. My brother lives in Forest Grove

Yeah. For the New Racer School weekends, they take the LW slot. I think it’s a bit of an experiment and I’m not sure it’ll last. The shorter sessions mean fewer hot laps, and a red flag crash will probably mean the session’s over.

As much as I like the concept, I wonder if keeping tighter control on who gets into the intermediate group wouldn’t be a better solution. I got no problem being buzzed on the straights if the guy/gal doing so doesn’t hold me up in the twisties.

So, unfortunately I had a couple mechanical problems and the bike spent most of the day up against tire walls. The few laps I did get to run were pleasantly free of being held up by big bikes with oblivious riders. That said, turnout in this group was surprisingly low. If nothing else, I'd kind of expected the OMRRA vintage crew to take advantage of extra practice time with only slightly faster bikes on track.

Hmm, maybe more advertising needed?
