1000 vs 600
I think I read somewhere on the forum that 600's handle better and are faster throught the corners. Now I'm no expert and really don't know that much about motorcycles but some guy named Ben Bostrum ( I think he is a test rider on that TV show Cafe Racer) just set the track record at JenningsGP in Florida (yes the same place that Joel and Kerry ride and race). He was on a 1000 GSXR, I think made by Suzuki (some Japanese company). Now this is one of those small, motorcycle only, tracks with lots of tight turns. How could this be that a 1000 always has the track record?
The new asphalt at Daytona is pretty nice. I watched the last two days of testing. I think the Team Hammer School in March might be in order.

CC what this tells me is that the modern 1000cc bikes aren't much different in weight nowadays not to mention all the traction control goodies they are playing around with. Which means that they need to start reducing weight on the 600's even more now.

In a youtube video - someone mentions that the new 2011 ZX-10R feels like a ZX-6R from a rider prospective - the weight and cornering characteristics were very similar.

250 2 stroke? or ninja 250 and while we are considering this is the 1000cc that we are comparing it to a stock bike or an AMA pro spec bike because that is a huge difference right there.

the gap between the middleweights and the superbikes has been shrinking with every generation in terms of handling and weight. There is still a difference and generally corner speed and quickness still favor the 600s but the difference is not what it used to be. Recent bike of the year or some odd test in Sport Rider test pitted the ZX6R against a couple liter bikes and it was an eye opening test really. Bottom line was that you REALLY REALLY had to work the 6R to keep up with the big boys but when you did, the additional corner speed and agility offered kept it in striking distance the whole time.

I can't wait to outgrow my 600 and order me a liter bike. I am sick of people asking when I am going to upgrade.

Jordan Suzuki GSXR 1000 turned a 1:13.72 Thursday. Ben said he wasn't really trying.
As far as Daytona testing: These highly unofficial lap times at Daytona. Tom Hayden, Suzuki, 1:38.714 Blake Young, Suzuki, 1:39.218 Josh Hayes, Yamaha, 1:39.287 Larry Pegram, BMW, 1:39.610 Josh Herrin (DSB) Yamaha, 1:43.047 PJ Jacobsen, (DSB) 1:43.187 Cory West, (DSB) 1:43.964 Ben Solis, (DSB) 1:44.108 About a 4 second difference between 1000 and 600.

How do you "outgrow" a modern 600? Or are you talking strictly track use?

^ +1000. though I did see a guy around here (street rider only) who traded a less than 1000 mile R1 (latest generation) for a S1000RR because the R1 was slower. Wonder if he will ditch the S1000RR if the ZX10 proves to be faster??

Think of handling and speed in real-world terms, not lap times. I've only ridden track once. It was fun, but not for me. I'm not going to apply those skills to the street very often in a responsible and safe manner.
An example; My little Ninjette weighed with gear down was much more capable than my Strom when it comes to tight, low-speed twisties (like Lime Creek Road). My Strom is more of a real-world sportbike than a CBR (ever ridden a sportbike in Tulsa?). When riding hard on uneven, rough roads, I can pull away from more powerful bikes built for the track. It's more in the rider's ability than in the bike itself. Here's a good book for anyone wanting to become a better rider, even if the track is not the focus:

That Jordan suzuki puts out 225HP. Bostrom could have probably taken the record on either bike.

That is how I found out about the Y2K. There are some good videos on his site - I absolutely LOVE the sound of the turbine starting up (neighbors wouldn't)!

If I was going to get a super sport, I'd take a 600 over a 1000. If you want to run the crap out of a literbike and go thru all the gears(or even most of them), you'd have to reach INSANE speeds. It's almost as bad with a 600. I'd like to have a radical little 400 with a 14 or 15,000 redline-you could wring it out, use most of the engine's power, and still keep it under 100mph.
