Yamaha is recalling 2015-2016 YZF-R3 models to correct separate issues with the clutch and oil pump. According to Yamaha, a bearing in the clutch may break, preventing the clutch from disengaging. In addition, the oil pump may not be properly regulating the oil pressure. The two recalls affects 11,280 models in the U.S.

According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the clutch plate bearing does not have a sufficient load rating and may break with frequent use of the clutch. This can cause the clutch to fail, preventing the transmission from shifting.

To correct this problem, Yamaha dealers will replace the clutch pressure plate assembly with* redesigned parts.

As for the second recall, NHTSA documents say an improper oil relief valve design is preventing the oil pressure from being properly controlled. Should pressure accumulate, it may cause a gear, either the oil pump gear or the idle gear, to break, leading to an engine seizure from lack of oil supply.

Yamaha dealers will replace the oil pump assembly on affected motorcycles with new components with a redesigned oil relief valve.

Both remedies take about two hours to complete but they may be done at the same time.
