Does my engine sound normal?

Hi guys, just wanted a sanity check here. After reading all the posts about hard ticking and such, I figured, I'd have you guys evaluate whether or not my engine is ok. I have about 450 or so miles on the bike right now. Here are the videos:

(Videos are of the bike idling with choke on at about 2,500 RPMs)
Rear brake side:

Chain side:

EDIT: Here is the video with the bike properly warmed up and no choke (idling at 1350 RPMs)

Thanks all!

P.S. the engine oil looks low since it's on the side-stand.

Sounds about right to me. Our engines have a little bit of clatter just due to the way they're constructed.

That said, 2,500 is a bit high for idle. Manual spec says 1350, most people run @ ~1500 for ease of checking it. Might consider changing it once the bike's warmed up via the idle adjustment knob on the left side.

I see. By the way, regarding the idle, the engine is not fully warmed up and I was going by the manual to say to moderate the choke to keep it constant at 2,500 RPM before riding. Mine does idle around ~1,500 RPM.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but it seems like yours is good. My 2009 ninjette with about 5300 miles has definitely developed a fluttering rattle or "ticking" recently, one that wasn't there before. It follows the engine speed, becoming more pronounced when the throttle is applied, and it is still noticeable when in neutral, so I can't imagine it's the drive chain.

The only suggestions I've received is cam chain slap due to a tensioner gone bad, and that makes sense to me, but I'm trying to get some confirmation and some direction. I found the DIY maintenance in the older generation tech section, but when I look up the parts on our new models, the assembly looks different.

This being my first attempt at doing anything on my bike, I'd like to be certain I know what I'm doing. Can anyone point me in the right direction for something similar to this page -- http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Cam_cha...er_maintenance -- but one geared towards a 2009?

Thanks.

I have seen this about the cam chain tensioner here I think?
Talks about how to install it near the end.

If you need more info I can check the service manual.

That looks right... Now maybe I have the courage to take on my first job, even one as simple as this. Thanks

Also a little more in-depth CCT install at the YeagerGroup website near the end of their valve clearance adjustment:
http://www.theyeagergroup.com/2008_n..._clearance.htm

A new CCT seems to have fixed my clatter (coulda been the valve adjustment, but I doubt it)
