I found out about it from a friend on the craigslist motorcycle forum yesterday. Just got off the phone with Grifs a moment ago and they say they'll be open at 1000 tomorrow. I'm going to head out around 900 and be up there around 940 or so.

They're on the NB I-35E access road south of Hebron so I'll go north from 121. I've got an event I have to be at in Fort Worth at 1400 so I'll probably have to leave Grifs no later than 1100 or so. Supposedly they're having a hotdog cookout as well, but don't know when that starts.

Would we be meeting up to do a group ride or just browsing?

The forcast for tomarrow is going to be 10+ UV index and 104 high. Weather doesn't bother me even in full gear because I so used to it thanks to Iraq. But for those of us not attuned to it we would have to leave early.

I figure tomorrow will be a meet and greet. At this time of year a longish ride should probably be done early in the morning for heat reasons, but there's no reason why we can't get together and hammer out some plans for a ride on a nice morning before too long.

I got some info from a friend that said griffs is looking pretty empty. Apparently the people who knew the right names got the discounts a week ago.

If we need to exchange phone # just PM me.

Yeah Dallas Highways during rush hour really drain you lol. I'm not good enough at the back roads yet to avoid them. I bet it'll take me 40 minutes max if traffic is okay.

sure... i dont know exactly where you are in keller, but i know you have to travel my way to get on 121.. we can meet up somewhere on 26? like Tom Thumb parking lot off Grapevine Highway in Hurst, and then just jump on the highway from there. Or whatever you want to do. what time? it looks like it should take 30-35 minutes to get there, so maybe 9:15am?

Four of us showed up at Grifs. It was nice to meet Matt, Stephanie, and John! Grifs was fairly picked over but I got some new ProGel grips and a balaclava for this winter. We talked about bikes and what it's like riding in the area, and worked out a tentative plan to ride down to Stephenville southwest of the DFW area on the morning of Saturday, September 4th. The destination is the Hard 8 BBQ joint, some of the best BBQ in the area. the plan is to arrive around 11:30-11:45 am, get stuffed, then saunter back to the metroplex.

I think I may be out of town that weekend since it's Labor Day weekend. My husband and I usually head to the hill country that weekend. We don't have any definite plans yet so I'll definitely be there if I'm in town. I would love to meet some of you folks in person.

Just a reminder that a week from tomorrow (weather permitting since it's actually starting to rain around here again) we're going to ride down to Stephenville to the Hard-Eight BBQ restaurant, some of the best BBQ in this part of the country. This is (at this moment, anyway) not planned to be a twisty speed contest since some of us are still fairly new. Rather, the thought is to just ride down there in the morning and have a nice lunch and conversation, then ride back to the metroplex.

There are some more scenic back county roads to there and back; we can discuss during the week whether to take those going down, coming back, or both ways. The straightest route from the center of the metroplex at I-30 and SH-360 yields a travel distance of around 86 miles each way.

I read on another local forum that there was an accident on Preston in Plano that involved a red Ninja 250 and a truck. It sounded serious. I hope it's no one here, and I hope whoever it is, that it's not serious.

I dont know if I'll be able to make it yet. Depends on if I have to work and if/when my dad comes down to head to the range.

If I'm not doing anything I'm still down.

Well, I have just been informed that I have some family coming up from San Antonio for the long weekend, so that rules me out, unfortunately.

It didn't occur to me that this was a holiday weekend when we talked about it at Griff's. Do y'all think we should reschedule? My next free Saturday after that will be October 16th. Or, we could do it on Sunday? I can call down there to make sure they're open on Sundays. I'm free on the Sunday the 26th.

Or, we can do something more local that would use less time riding.

I'm down for some rides and get togethers. I have my MTC this weekend in Mesquite (Manchester) - has anyone taken that particular class? I'd like to know if the instructor is a hard-ass or not. I should be ready to ride the roads the second week in September - if a group wants to meetup. I live out by Greenville, TX and there are lots and lots of places to ride out here - with nice country roads, lakes, hills, etc.

Live out that way as well. In fact I am VP of the CMA chapter there. Getting together out this way would be fine. Great places to eat and less traffic.

Most safety course instructors are firm but patient. You should do fine.

Right on - then you may be familiar with the route I thought would be a nice ride from Dallas and back. It would be an all day thing - approx. 100+ miles. Starts off with fast highway followed by some twistys, next a new pristine blacktop, finished off with a some nice, smooth curves by the lake. Damn, almost sounds like Ninja Porn lol

oh and there would be some top notch places to stop by and grab a bite to eat during the trip.

There are some routes like that. However, we live in north Texas so pristine blacktop is rare.

so true! That's why I like living in Hunt County - these guys spend serious money on their roads - the new blacktop I'm speaking of is a stretch of 380.

I know that stretch of 380.

FM 36, FM 272, FM 898.......lots of fun stuff. Plenty of good riding just to the north as well.

That's right! 36 south of 380 is FUN! Haven't ridden on my bike yet

Have you been on that bridge that goes north across the lake just outside Farmersville?

A few times. typically when riding for pleasure I stay out of the more populace areas. My favorites out that way are FM 1377, FM 545, FM 1827, and FM2933.

maybe we could do a day trip for those roads? the trip I was thinking would be fun, since it has something of everything:

Start in the Land of the Gars (Garland), ride up 30 east to 36 to 380. take 380 into Farmersville (could stop for grub here or go into Princeton), then take 78 south back into Garland.

I do, but I don't mind meeting up in Garland. I LOVE driving! Plus it would give me a chance to scope the road patrol conditions before the group ride

Not sure if anyone else uses it but the Harley Davidson Ride Planner you can access online is great for planning and sharing routes with others. Here's the link http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.c...idePlanner.jsp
