another neutral gear?!

I know enough about manual transmissions to know there is no neutral gear between 5th and 6th, but on a few occassions after I upshift out of 5th it revs as if not in a gear! I just bought it friday so I'm sure a clutch adjustment might help me hit 6th more firmly, but anyone else have this problem?

If you're hitting a false neutral when clicking up from 5th you most likely need to check out your shift linkage for bent/worn parts or adjustment. Being yours is a 2011 I'd think maybe linkage adjustment.

Either that or the OP needs to fix his shifting technique. When shifting up, keep pressure on the shifter when letting out the clutch. This will force the transmission to engage that gear and virtually fixes false neutrals all together. Unless like the above poster said, something is bent or out of alignment.

She could be just not used to shifting yet, perhaps just not clicking up hard enough, but If you have to keep pressure up on the shifter while engaging the clutch there's something wrong.

Well sure you don't have to do it, but it's one way to eliminate getting a false neutral. Personally, I don't do this, I've just heard of it. I used to have problems with false neutrals every now and then but like you said, just kick up nice and hard each time and it's a non-issue.

So that didn't work. Adjusted the shifter down (thanks Kevin!) and it still doesn't catch the 6th gear. THEN TODAY I was at a stop sign and thought I was in first but when I went to take off it revved as it would in neutral, then the Neutral light came on! I'm still under manuf warranty and was going to take it in to Kawi dealer; I don't want to do any DIY that would negate the warranty.

yep, take it back and have them check it out. is it something that happens with consistency? They will want to see what you're talking about and be able to reproduce your problem when you take it in.

it does sound like you may have a transmission problem, but let the dealer sort it out.

When shifting up or down, you have to left off of the shift lever a lil' bit after the shift. So shift up, relax the ankle, let the lever naturally drop back down, shift up again. Same thing going down, makes things a lot smoother.

This happens to me some of the time. I believe it is me not making a complete shift, as it tends to happen thru out the gear box, from time to time.

Jennifer, I dont know if it really is a problem with the bike When I rode it, it didnt seem to do it as you described. Just make sure you shift harder. Next time we meet up take my bike out and see if you can reproduce it on my bike

I have had this happen a couple of times. I am pretty sure that I am just not completing the ankle move completely. It usually happens when I am lazily going into 6th just puttering along, and I don't use as much force. Just rolled over 100 mi today on my bike.

Or maybe it is just the black ones. They gave us an extra neutral....lol

usually it's my 3-4 shift..but i beat on my bike...i've always been hard on bikes.

the down to first thing i understand..it's normal..but i only go down first if i truly have to..but i get a pretty regular(2/3 times a week) but not too often where it'll go in for a hot second then pop out of 4th...it's scary man..to suddenly not be accelerating with all the dumbasses here... i prepare for impact while quickly getting things straightened out lol
