It has been, a weird two weeks surrounding the NORRA Mexican 1000. The #53 and #55 incident. It was an experiment covering things with only the photographer on the ground, intel gleaned from live streams, social media, occasionally actual satellite views, and other on the ground crowd-sourcing. Frankly, it wasn’t worth it.

When we were doing reviews, OneWheelDrive (OWD) was about finding where a bike excelled, the niche it succeeded in, and when if gave you that little dose of euphoria that no other vehicle can deliver. But, arranging for review bikes, far from the center of the Canadian industry was always a struggle. Selling advertising beyond a few key supporters like Ducati, Triumph, and Honda was sparse. And, frankly having a social circle composed almost completely of riders was a life sporadically punctuated with the tragic loss. Eventually, we “pivoted” to adventure.

Road riding had become weighed down by expectations of high speeds, knee-dragging, and the tick-tick-tick of time marching towards that moment when you’re not paying quite enough attention, and you reset the timer to “0 days until next accident”… Or, not. Adventure, less speed, less enforcement, a larger selection of roads and trails, and truly more places to go. Maybe not softer accidents though… Still OWD was about that dose of euphoria with new places, the twist of the throttle, and very occasionally a frisky bit of roost.

OWD wasn’t about chasing the down story, but the fun one. When we come back, if we come back, it will be about that. Enjoy the world, OWD signing off.
