leaking oil D:

Hey guys, recently did a oil change. A few days later I went to the bank and the next day I noticed a few oil spots under my bike. I had some trouble placing the big o ring in the spot when doing the change. I used the one in the fram filter box. Is that all that could be causing this?

Hm I did just make an observation. Stumbled upon a bolt that was kinda loose next to the oil filter. Not sure what that bolt even goes to but i tightened it up.

Both could be causing it - did you wipe clean engine oil on the o-ring before installing it? That helps it seal better. Also, ensure that the filter plate/bolt was torqued correctly.

Wipe and clean up the areas in question and pin-point where the oil is coming from - that should tell you what needs fixing, as there should be oil residue coming from the problematic part.

I knew this sounded a bit strange cause I've always applied oil to the new o-ring. Wasn't sure where I read that, so I checked and it's in the DIY.

Oil leak is probably from the loose bolt. There are two bolts that will drain oil. You're probably talking about the circled one in attached picture. I didn't know about this one until my friend did an oil change with valve adjustment. I had an oil leak as well and this bolt was not fully tightened.
You should be good to go now

Yeah that bolt was what I was talking about, that probably was leaking too, but I took the filter out and the O ring had a big chunk missing from it, so it must have snagged when putting it on the last time, this time I didn't press the metal plate all the way down, I pushed it up into the bike and tightened the bolt and I believe that did the trick, started it and let it run for 10 mins and no leak. thanks for all the help as usual fellas, best forums.
