2011 Track Ninja!

Hello All! Just picked up a race prepped 211 Ninja 250. What I know it has:

Racetech springs and preload adjusters in the front
Nitron R3 rear shock
K&N filter
DynoJet jet kit
Tyga full exhaust (loud!!)
EBC sintered pads and wave rotors
Vortex rearsets

What I want to do next winter:

KOSO gauge
Key ignition delete
Aftermarket gas cap so I don't need the key
Possibly a CDI upgrade

Anything I should specifically know or watch out for on these little beasts? She sure cleaned up nice! I need to do a full fluid flush, oil change and valve check.

Nice looking bike, I'd say check your forks and shock spring rates and if needed get new springs for your weight/riding preference.

Nice ride! The ignition delete (using woodcraft plug) and gas cap (sling shot racing is cheapest!) are so easy you don't need to wait for winter. That's 15 minutes of work combined. I made a DIY video of the ignition delete if you need any help

Did the helmet come with it? I'd check the build date just to be sure it'll be legal.

Looks like it has slicks from a 125 two stroke. I've been wondering how many folks are using those.

google stomp grip

And chuck that useless POS open-face helmet and get a proper full-face helmet. You're going to have to have one to ride on the track.

Nice bike! It should handle well. I am curious about the slicks, are they Dunlop, Pirelli or Bridgestones? I have used the Pirelli Diablo Superbike in 100/70-17 front and the 115/70-17 rears, and they stick like glue! I was thinking about the Dunlop 125gp slicks, and this spring I think I am going to go back to the slicks on the VTR250 Interceptor (not sure whether the Dunlops or Pirelli's), and move the Pirelli DOT's over to the 86 Ninja 250 I am building. The Vtr250 did better with the smaller slicks on it. I had replaced them with the 140/70-17 and 110/70-17 Pirelli Supercorsa DOT tires last fall, and they stuck well, but gave me a wallow in the kink at Nelson Ledges from the taller profile and heavier tire.

Charlie, I ran those for a minute at Nelson, never had a single slide/wallow anywhere in the dry. I liked the feel of the rosso II rear better than the sc rear and went back to that but kept the sc front. They love pressure... YMMV

The fast guys from Cali ran the dunlop 125's with really good results, toyed with getting a set but never did. Couldn't justify the extra cost when I was already winning.

Yeah Chris, i think the ninja will get the set of sc's, and i am going back to the 115/70-17 rear and 100/70-17 front on the vtr250. Not sure whether it will be the Dunlops or the Pirelli's... I might try the Dunlops as they are only $259 a set.

I have a real helmet for the track.

I'm not. It now has Pirelli's on it. 110 front, 140 rear.

Yeah....I'm gonna DIY the ignition delete. The gas cap can wait too...this year it's just a track bike. next year it will be raced. I race a Vintage bike already with my club.

The slicks that came on the bike were Bridgestones. 120 front and 120 rear. Some guys here run them but the top guys in our club are running the factory size tires in Pireli Diablo Rosso's.

Are you sure? The Diablo Supercorsas are a much better racing tire than the Rossos.

It might be those. I'm going off memory from a conversation that covered many topics.....all I remember is Pirelli Diablo somethings!

Guys have been running Rosso II rears with a Supercorsa front for years. It wasn't until about a year ago that Pirelli started making a 140 Supercorsa, which is now the better tire for the rear.

The Rosso II was popular before that because there wasn't a Supercorsa that fit the rear.

Got some goodies in the mail today!

Ordered a Yoshimura muffler hanger....we shall see how it works with the Tyga exhaust. I don't forsee any issues since they both bolt up to the stock mount....right?

New 520 14 tooth countershaft sprocket.
Front wheel spacer will be here Saturday from a member here. Thanks @DCMoney

Have a new 520 chain, new brake fluid, water wetter, oil and filter. Rear sprocket won't be here until Monday....HOW RUDE!!

Guess what I'm doing this weekend?

Good lord the airboxes on these things are nasty! On the plus side, the Yosh hanger works PERFECTLY with the Tyga exhaust. WOOT!!

Just did some cleaning, new front sprocket and new exhaust hanger tonight. Airbox was full of oil....don't think it's ever been drained after a race. Yuck.

This was the cobbled together stuff from the PO..

Sorry for the blurry pic, I'll get another one.

While it was stripped I figured I may as well clean the whole thing. A little Purple Power, a brush and some elbow grease goes a long way! Cooling system flushed and water wetter added. Now to change the oil, install a new wheel spacer and wait for the rear sprocket to get here Monday.

New rear sprocket, new chain, new front sprocket, new grips and a wheel spacer! Still going! All I have left to do is wax the belly pan then it's ready for the dyno in March.

Old sprocket..

Shiny new!

Clean hub

I keep all my machines waxed with Meguiars Gold Class Carnuba. Pretty much nothing sticks to it. Makes for easy cleaning!

SO my wife finally got to ride it around tonight. And, in true racer fashion, bounced it off the rev limiter a few times! HAHAH! Yup, she's ready for the track.

Although, I may have to order that KOSO with shift light sooner than I thought..........

Nice bike. It's somehow comforting to know I'm not the only one who thought the Tyga system was super loud. Just for the sake of my curiosity, what did you gain by swapping to the Yoshi hanger?

Was there a before dyno run?

Bike came with the Tyga system so I have nothing more than this baseline. Compared to other Ninja's this tuner has done, it's in the top of the HP range. I have a video I'll upload and post of it on the dyno....sounds mean but it's loud!

The exhaust hanger was some cobbled together thing that was sketchy at best. Further, club rules spec that the hanger must be triangulated and the old one was not. I cheaped out and bought one instead of making one.

Tyga doesn't make a hanger for the Ninja 250's, you are supposed to use the factory footpeg bracket. There were questions about the Yosh hanger fitting properly so I bought one and confirmed it.

Thanks for the response! The triangulated rule seems like adequate motivation.
