FNG from TX

Just stopping in to say hey. Been looking to pick up a newer 250 and ran across this site in the process. I'll be lurking around until I find a decent price on one but I figured I'd come in and say hi at least

Hi Eric. There's plenty of info here to keep you busy while you're waiting! Have you taken the MSF yet?

Thanks everyone. Haven't taken the MSF yet, but I'm enrolling in a class for next weekend as soon as I find my wallet! (which is a different story, altogether...)

Oh and yeah...Denton's just a few mins down the road. Good to see there's locals & neighbors on here too!

I haven't done much for gear except look at it and crap myself when I see the tag lol

My buddy's got an extra helmet that fits me pretty well, so he said I can keep it. As far as a jacket, I've looked at the ICON Accelerant Stealth but I'm keeping an eye out on craigslist for something more affordable to come up.

Well I won't give you the old parent lecture but, I think you will find most of the members of this site will urge you to get the best you can affoard.

There will be many opinions on which manufacture and which color and (you fill in the blanks) but I think you will find that most will say the helmet is number one and it needs to fit properly. There are round heads and oval heads and the different manufactures fit different heads. See their web sites on how to fit a helmet.

For now a good pair of cow-hide leather gloves will get you by but you might want some motorcycle specific gloves at some point.

On my list a jacket and shoe/boots would be next and I'd wouldn't put one over the other. Check the various sites and see what they have on clearance and buy the quality all you can afford.

The pants can ranage far and wide in quality and $$.

You are starting to find that there is a little more in the cost of this sport than just the bike.

Have fun but ride safe.

Update: She was about 300 miles each way, but after almost 9 hours of driving I've got an 09 Ninja 250 sitting in my garage. Sunbeam Red w/ 2400 miles. And as an added bonus, I found out once I got there that the previous owner already had lowering links on it!

OldGuy - You're absolutely right about about the epiphany I had about the cost of getting into riding! Luckily, I'm blessed to have great, responsible friends who ride and are pointing me in the right direction in getting good starter gear.

Gloves: AlpineStars SP-1 that a buddy gave me
Jacket: Power Trip Mojave. Not the Icon Accelerant Perf that I wanted, but it looks to be a decent starter for now.
Boots: None yet. Looking for boots that are business casual appropriate, or something that I can just throw in my bag when I get to the office.
Helmet: Going to a couple cycle shops in the area today to try a few on. In the meantime I'll be looking through the site for suggestions/reviews.

MSF is this coming weekend so I'm well on my way. I'll post some pics of my new toy tonight if all goes well

I've been looking at the subject of this thread off and on for two weeks before I remembered what "FNG" stands for!

Welcome again "New Guy"!
