Race Bodywork Custom Headlights

So I've been doing a lot of thinking on how I can mod my headlights. It seems like Kawi did an awesome job at redesigning the 250r... until they hit the headlights... so I was wondering how hard it would be to add a front race faring and cut and mount headlights from another bike. I attached two pics I did in Photoshop of lights from an 04-07 cbr1000, an 05-06 zx6, and one with the stock light assembly but custom raised halos. Any input would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm 17 and am VERY new to riding on the streets but have been working on cars and dirt bikes since I could walk.

Have you ever done body work before? This would be significantly more difficult then just cutting a hole in a race fairing. How are you going to mount the new lights?

I have done bodywork including mounting and positioning custom lights. But that was in a car. What I was thinking is that I would is custom fab a mount out of tube steel and make adjustments as necessary.

i like the ducati style. iirc the stock headlights mount to a plastic casing attached to the face fairing. you could easily add extra mounting braces onto the existing head support structure:

i think it would be pretty sick to have mirror tint on the headlights to make it look like the bike's wearing "dick" sunglasses (aviators) ... or even a completely flush tinted face so you couldn't see any headlights until they're on... but then you get issues with visibility... just get brighter lights

p.s. take pictures

Cutting the shape out it rather easy, however matching the 3D of the new lights can be a pain. THe curvature of the other bikes differs from that of the Ninja. The lights wouldn't fit flush with the fairing so a lot of work to build them in would be necessary. I attempted this some time ago but had to pause the project.

Thanks for the input everybody. IF I do decide to try this, I will most likely go with the cbr lights in the first pic. DarC, what lights did you try that with?

636 lights, based purely on measurement. My plan was to use thick weather stripping on the inside of the fairing to take up some of the space and provide a seal.

If I had unlimited time, a ZXR/ CBR front fairing and a spare 250r fairing I would surely come up with some franken-fairing.

Problem isn't so much mounting the new cowl or lights. Brackets are easy. The problem is when you try to attach the side fairings to the new cowl. That will likely require fiberglass work. If you're good with fbg, go for it!

the kawi 250 KR1-s max speed was 140! whaaaat?

new to bikes so I didn't know kawi ever made a 250 as nice as the 2008+, very surprised.

All four of the "Big Four" bike makers had screaming 4 cylinder 250cc bikes, which is why I don't like the new trend of parallel twins and single cylinder bikes for the new 250's.

If a 4cylinder 250 had been available when I bought my 250R, I would have gone with it instead of the twin.

I also wish 2 strokes were still legal on the street, the Suzuki RGV 250 and Honda NSR 250R were sweet MotoGP RepliRacers that could thrash a regular Ninja 250R in a heartbeat, that Turbo kit might keep up though.

I don't think it's in "kit" form just yet, and I don't think it works on Carb'd biked, but it's 58.2 horsepower on an EFI bike.

It's only for the old ZXR250 anyways so you won't have to worry about ever seeing one on a new 250 unless someone gets it custom fitted.

i have no idea how well this kit fits the original side farings,

http://www.jayarayamotor.com/detail.php?nomor=6

apparently that is the front only faring, so i think you still use the rest of the original farings. the picture above is the full kit, front side, tail, etc.

there is a disclaimer on the website that these kits are all P&P, with no need to modify the bikes frame. however i would not know if that is 100% true. i have not seen this kit on any bike. i am just translating what they claim.

From all the pictures on the jayaraya site, that kit has it's own side panels that emulate the Duck.

From the way the Ninja 250R nose is "cut" into the side panels, nearly vertical, the Duck nose would have to be made to match, and I didn't see any pics like that on their site.

They would need to make 2 different noses, one for the full kit, and one without the duck side panels for the vertical n250r panels.

i believe that is why they have the 2 pictures/products, one is the full kit, and the other is the front end only kit~

its not clear enough from the one picture to understand if it would fit on the original side farings though, lol

i could call and ask, but what for, no one is gonna get this anyhow, since shipping will end up costing too much probably. unless we are really really curious and want to know

Check out page 16 of the jayaraya site (if you can get it to work), they've got the 250R duck kit fully decked out in Valentino Rossi MotoGP livery, looks like paint + vinyl bits + stickers that aren't applied very well, there's ripples on the edges of the square pieces.
