Stuck Float? Or maybe?

Hello everyone, it has been a while since I posted here.

I hadn't ridden my 250 in a while, so the weather was nice(AZ) and I charged my battery and started her up. She started fine, but when I looked down, I noticed a large amount of gas pouring out below the carbs!

A few questions for you:

First, is the likely cause of the gasoline pouring from the carbs a stuck float? I didn't see any hoses loose or cracked.

Secondly, if the carb float is actually stuck, where does the gasoline come out of the carb? Is there an overflow port? I didn't think the overflow gas would flood out on to the engine if the float bowl over fills.

Any suggestions before I remove the carbs?

Thank you all in advance.

Ruben

Additional. Carbs only overflow when bike is running.

It just about has to be a float valve that's stuck open. You should be able to tell which carb. You may find that if there's enough varnish built up to make a float stick, other critical parts and passages need cleaning too.

They overflow only when running because the vacuum petcock stops flow to the carbs when the engine is not running.

Thanks Jim, as always.

That is what I suspected. Just didn't want to pull the carbs... No big deal really.

In a rare case, the float just gets hung up at the bottom of its travel. Sometimes running the carbs empty and then refilling them fixes it, and sometimes tapping on the bowls with a screwdriver handle fixes the problem. If it's not a varnish buildup problem, it might be worth a try.

Yeah, I tapped on both carbs with a screwdriver quite a bit, hoping that the float would release. Drained the carbs and then let them refill more than once, but no luck.

At least the weather here in Phoenix has been nice. I'll let you know what I find in a few days.
