Talking '08 green NINJA from Iowa!

Hi, All!

I'm a RiderCoach from Iowa and I FINALLY got a greenNINJA! I also have a 2010 Honda NT700V which I LOVE! The NINJA is a 2008, 10,000+ miles, cracked fairing (it's already over with before my son starts riding lessons in a couple years--I'll worry about replacing it when he's past the newbie stage) and broken left front blinker. It also needs the shift lever bolt; the seller had lost the original shortly before he went to sell it, so he replaced it with something from the hardware store that got me through the test ride. I messed with it after I got home and now I can only hit first and neutral. My stepdad hauled it home for me, and he figured there had to be a bushing that was lost, too. So I found a schematic online and, yep, there's a special bolt and two washers required which are now on order (so is the blinker). So I can't ride the thing. But while I'm waiting, I can replace the low beam light, change the oil, lube the chain, and hopefully adjust the spring on the rear brake pedal so that the rear brake light will work. The tires are about shot; the sidewalls aren't too terrible, but the centers have about had it and I don't trust them, so I'll get those changed along with the brake fluid and a once-over by my tire guys after the rear tire arrives (they've got the front). All this for the low, low price of...$1600. By the time it's all said and done, I'll have another $400 or so in it, not counting tax, title, registration (I got a Motorcycle Rider Education plate), and insurance (a whopping $3.50/mo--pretty cheap entertainment, if you ask me). The ergos fit me PERFECTLY, with more of a standard than sport seating position. I'm trying to decide whether to wimp out and get neoprene grip covers and CrampBusters so I won't have to move them from the NT for longer rides. And I put my tank bag on it cuz I have to be able to carry my hat and water at a minimum.

And I've named him "Sheldon". He's incredibly bright and quirky, a royal pain in the butt (I spent two days learning how NOT to change the headlight bulb, thus learning all about the physics of a NINJA fairing), but with a definite childlike quality which makes you absolutely LOVE him. Plus, there's this Theory that the sportbike craze was started by NINJAs with a Big Bang.

See what happens when they cancel my motorcycle ed classes? Instead of making money, I spend it!

LET THE FARKLING BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
