Cool lola's gettin a make over

welp after my cracked left side fairing- I decided to go ahead and do a paint job :

it wont be blended like my photoshop job thats just shadow from the kawiimage-
saw a white and silver airliner which inspired me.

also will be doing a bell gel seat mod for a hopefully mor comfyer ride and luimoto seat covers-

and heres a pic of some primer.

also will not be putting kawi on the gas tank but will be getting some swag ninja cf vinyl lettersfor the sides.

: quick question- could not find out if i need to remove the front tire to get the front fender off- did a search -search id=223487 nada about the fenders-

but once again thanks to KKIM's DIY on fairing removal .

Nice color scheme. Not sure why, but it makes me think silver R6.

Whoa sixer....a silver bullet...Finish it and post pix please..for lil' parts that you may not want to shoot...krylon has a remarkably durable silver paint with the smallest metalflakes you ever saw...it's a semi gloss finish...used it on a bumper on my truck.

Sixer....I'm in the biz and FYI....many sign makers have plotter/cutters that can exactly duplicate any graphic you draw...the can't handle fades or tints but can do an outline perfectly. The import street racers around here do it all the time and it look awl-some.

Six, I can understand the PITA re-covering the seats. Wife does that sort of work. Her suggestion is to carefully cut out the Gel/Foam and fit it to the seat until you are satisfied with the look. Spray the foam on the seat with a spray adhesive designed to be used on foam (available in crafts stores). Then place the new foam you want to add. Spray that foam sparingly and put on the vinyl or leather. Let it dry and then staple the whole thing. You need to work the staples so that you get an even pull aand no wrinkles---sort of like putting a wheel on a car (tightening sequence of the lug nuts)

Tools im using (sans tack cloth-used to wipe down parts after sanding)

3M blue painter tape
150 felxable sanding pad- good to get edges-
320 paper to finish off that factory clear coat
Rust-oleum primerX3 ( primer brands vary so it really up to you)
Color1- Rust-oleum MetallicX3
Color2- Alsa corp Killer cans pearl white-X3cans ( in the mail! i xpect it any day now!)
Clear- undecided ( friend has a paint sprayer may go that route)

Some processes-
Dont have pics of sanding off the factory clear coat... but i used the pink pad #150 (above) and some 320 black paper to finalise removing the clear coat and scuff the factory paint...

Then i primed the parts - using light coats (layers of paint) follow can directions- 8" s to 10" s away from part - good to hang the part up with a wire hangar- after a coat or two flip the part and another coat or two-

let dry ( i like to wait a day for dryn) and wet sand with 600 waterproof paper.

WOW the pics do it no justice...

I may mask off parts of the Mettalic and spray some silver for a light effect- maby- Should take one can for that.

Im scared to remove my gas Tank -lol

Inspiration- DIY can job-
http://www.fireblades.org/forums/how...pray-cans.html
- I did it my way

Sailariel- now ya tell me...

Yeah and noooo

To answer yer question...

Day1
Should only take one day to skuff origional paint and prime ( tank should be stripped with paint stripper one day and primed)

day2
wet sanding one day including air dry-use a hair dryer also.

Day 3 shoot all yer colors ( dont be like me and hope paint arrives quickly)
- if you have light you can also clear coat- dep on temp ect... Or wait till day 4

Day 4 your still in the window for clear coat spray-

after

I hear to wait 48-72(hrs) or more to sand clear and polish-

so it should have taken me 4 days paintin wise-
NO PAINT YET FROM EBAY!!!!!!! paid on the 23rd dec -
called jan 11- They say ALSA Corp laggin (?)
Still waiting -BLAH!

Tank waiting fer paint-

Update really is my new fender elim came in- Rumble Concept bone series-

Its ok - a little gappy but ill rig up something- not really sure how to do the led lic plate light hook up tho-

managed to salvage my tank pad!! with a little spray adhesive should be back on-

I'm in the same boat mang. Waiting on parts ebay I Think the mail system isn't as awesome as it was a couple years ago when you could order just about anything and have it three days later. We've been having a few post problems on our end here. Kinda crazy that I still even have packages over $100 sent to me anymore, but tough to find some of this motorcycle stuff local! Where the heck am I gonna get a K&N r-0990 in Riverslime.

Hey normally I don't like tank pads but that one is pretty cool.
I've never used one.
Still have yet to choose on a fender eliminator.

Nin--Yeah I had trouble deciding on fender elims myself- I'd wait a little longer maby if your not liking any out there- i couldn't wait anylonger -L

i also cant decided on leds so i went ahead and
bought an xtra set of stock front turn signals
and im going to try and do the diy flush mounts upfront-(someday)

Question (anyone?!!) - the elimator came with a led lic plate light- no instructions for wiring- So can i just use the old
stock connector with the led wires taped to the end of stock and reconnet??? or do i need a special part/parts ?

Tank pad is weird i liked the carbon fiber look of it but it actually has wire screen mesh in the middle parts- never scratched the tank tho-

You can cut / solder on the new light. LED's only work one way so be sure to check the order of the wire first

If anything might try using a resistor in series with the positive side of the plate light connector just in case, and check how bright it is.

At least if you do pop a fuse, the resistor will prevent you from burning out the tail light.

I don't know what the LED is rated for though man. That's a good question.

IMO, if it's an LED tail light and I didn't know it's rating, I'd use a resistor at least to test it. If it seems really dim when you test with a resistor then you probably don't need one.
Something like 100ohms should do fine. If the resistor cooks you might need one rated for more current.

If it's a bulb light it's most likely a 12v bulb. LED light could be different. Hard to say..

Most automotive packaged LED's already have the resistor in place. If it says 12v 0.2w on the led light casing, you should be okay.

Yoiks!

update heh- Alsa corp cans sucked- / could have been rusto primer just tinged and sucked it up? turning the color more blueish on the light grey primer (see tail piece above pipe)and i didnt even try it on the darker primer- also one of the cans was defective- shot a stream about ten feet- *&^% 131$'z to the wind.... Can't say anything thing about alsa corp for spray machines tho-

Rusto primer worked well with the Krylon fusion(white) - also not finished clear coating it yet... 88.9% done tho- sorry for the crappy phone pics-
will take some better ones asap!

i do have white rim tape!! now if my dog hadn't chewed up the applicator- which i didnt know how to use anyway lol-

All in all quite an experience -
Things id do diffrently-
1-Have all the tools, paint ect on hand
2-shoot all the pieces at the same time
3-forcast the weather- (rained for weeks up here) but it still came out pretty study-

I hopefully will be gettn a CBR- the ninjette will be the wifes - shed like it pink- I will pay someone else to do it- LMAO-

Peace!
