Nope not a must have. Plenty of people here have driven thousands of miles without any issue. Actually, I've never heard of anyone having anything kick up to their radiator which caused damage. More of an aesthetic farkle.

Nope not needed, 18,000 miles and no issues with the radiator.

Waste of money on a full faired bike, now on a naked bike it kinda finishes it off. but still more for looks.

Its not just for looks, just ask a friend of mine who had a rock leave his ZX-6R on the side of the road, dripping coolant all over the place. Take a look at most racebikes and you will see guards fitted. I have a Cox Racing guard on my ZX-6R and am shopping for one for the 250. Cox does not have one listed on their site for the 250 so I contacted them. Anyone have another brand they like?

Wal-Mart sells them. They rename it and call it trash cans.

Actually.....friends made their own radiator guards from wire mesh trash cans bought at wal-mart....

You could make your own out of gutter guards at home depot as well

All the fins running down the radiator in line with the wheel are bent on mine, I had a twig up there and it blocked the engine fan, blew a fuse and caused the FI warning light to come on, so if you live somewhere rural it's probably worth it.

I wouldn't bother in a city.

I want it for the track too. I've had rocks thrown up by bikes in front of me before. The hot sticky tires like to pick up all kinds of stuff, especially when going to the pit area. I'm amazed at what I find on the CRF450 motard tires after my last session and riding to my trailer. Seeing my friend's ZX-6R on the side of the road with coolant coming out was all I needed to get one for my ZX-6R. He ended up having to get it picked up with a truck and having his rad replaced. A guard would have saved the day and a lot of money.

My wife and I used to make some for our pre-'08s. Go buy some 1/2" mesh for a dollar or two at Home Depot or Lowe's and cut to size using tin-snips. Spraypaint to taste. Glue all the ends with to the inside of the opening. We did ours diagonally so it looked cooler. Pretty useless unless you ride through a stampede of kittens. Farkle fun.

Mesh paint grid would probably do it for a couple of bucks

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm away from my 250 for another 6 weeks but will fab something up this summer. I was disappointed Cox Racing didn't take the time to reply to my e-mail I sent.
