Track Tires for 300

Anyone bought 'em yet? someone at my dealer thought you could run a 150 on the rear, could open more options, I did a quick search for 140's on motorcyclesuperstore dot com, and they only had BT003's in that size. I've been running SC2 slicks on my SV, would love to run something similar on the 300, anyone?

Curious on this as well. I would think the new rear rim size provides many more suitable options than we had with the 250's. Out of the gate, the Pirelli Diablo Corsa II's would likely be great trackday tires. But for race tires, I'm excited about what now might be available.

Yeah, almost none of the online distributors have 300 configurations available, so its tough to shop for the new toy. Everyone's afraid to say whether the 250 stuff fits the 300. . .
tire wise, front is still the same, but the 140 rear gives more options. would like to see if I can get a 150 Pirelli slick on the back. . .

It's a 4" rim. People were spooning the 150's onto the 3.5" rim, so I'm sure that it would fit fine on the new rim.

Definitely interested in tire options as well (although it will be for twisty street fun, not track). Although I was pleasantly surprised to read that many of the journos liked the IRCs. You guys who have put a few miles on the new bike -- can you comment on the stickiness of the tires?

I was prepared to hate them, but I am somewhat embarrassed to admit I didn't. I ran them from edge to edge on a pretty brisk street ride, and didn't have any issues. I have no doubt that stickier tires would only help the bike, but the OEM's aren't as terrible as I was expecting.

So to the guys who have had the 250 as well. What would be the logical street tire upgrade from the 300 in your opinion and in what size?

I like these tires although I would like a bit more stick.

For stickier tires, Diablo Corsa II's in the stock 110/70 & 140/70 are the most obvious choices; they were released in a 140 width exactly for these lightweight bikes. The Bridgestone 003's are available in a 140, and would also likely perform well, though they would have significantly reduced tire life.

For replacements that are more similar to the OEM in terms of stickiness & tire life, the same tires that worked on the new-gens would likely work just as well. BT-45's, GT-501's, Sport Demons, etc. All are available in that 140 width.

Yup, those should work fine. There are several different versions of those Bridgestones. There are ones labelled BT-003; those are not street-legal. They are track-only tires, intended for racing or trackdays. I don't believe those are offered in 140 sizes, but I could be wrong. There are then the BT-003RS versions; these are street-legal, and are intended for trackdays and/or aggressive dry sport riding on the street. Those are definitely available in the 140/70/17 size.

Yeah I think with a 4 inch rear wheel it opens up a few more viable 150 options that may have been questionable on the 3.5". I suppose we will see how they fit pretty soon as people start sucking these things up.

I'd like to find some decent slicks that work, I haven't looked into it yet but the Pirelli SC II's are great, sticky tires, although I get about 2 trackdays on my SV with them. with a lighter, more underpowered bike, they should last much longer, but not sure if they come in the 110/150 sizes.

Can anyone chime in that races the 250's, which size is best? Is it any better to go to a 120 up front? 150 better than 140 in back I'd presume is a given, and I don't think I could stretch to 160 out back, but if I could, I'd be running the same rear as the SV, which is cool for familiarity. . . .

I ran those tires 3 days in a row last weekend at Barber. They are awesomely sticky, but HORRIBLE on wet pavement. So just be more careful than I was riding on a wet track with them!

Quick Question has anyone run the Diablo Rosso IIs only? I dont mean the Diablo Rosso Corsa IIs. As I understand it the difference is that the Rossos are upgraded street tires while the Corsa is a Street\Race tire. After some thought I may want to do some miles on the Rossa then get a set of Corsa's \ or 003 RS for the track. Any thoughts in regards? Thanks in advance.

You have 4 decent options of tires to run right now at the track:
- 110/140 bridgestone BT003 tires. Cheap and sticky-ish but less grip than any of the others
- 110/150 Dunlop Unbeaten 02s. Lots of grip, I don't have any personal experience with them but they seem to be pretty decent.
- 110/150 Michelin Pilot Power Race. Very sticky, good grip, stiff sidewalls, but wear out quickly and give away suddenly when tread gets low.
- 110/140 Pirelli Supercorsa SC1 (front), diablo rosso 2 (rear). So far these are the tires to be on, they last forever, have tons of grip and are super predictable even as they get down past the wear bars. Most lap records are on these right now.

There's also three options for slicks, but the rear tire may be an issue for some of the brands:
- 90/120 Bridgestone Moto3 slicks or you could always fit a 120 sbk front slick and a 125 front slick on the rear, which I've seen done. The moto3 slicks work for some people. but you end up running out of tire and onto the sidewall at max lean on these bikes, and the rear tire ends up being too soft for the amount of heat being put in and tears up pretty bad. But fast times have been put down on them!
- 100/125 Pirelli Moto3 slicks. I have a set at home I haven't tried yet, but I've got a feeling they won't be too bad, and should have a little more tire available than the b-stones.
- 95/115 Dunlop Moto3 slicks, or you could put the 115 up front and 125 sbk slick in back. Again it might be a bit stretched out especially on the wider rim but it might work.

Sourcing all the Moto3 tires will be an issue. Check with the CVMA/AFM/WERA tire vendors to see where you can get what.

Did they change the IRC roadwinner compound, or is the bike just a little happier on them than the newgen?

The newgen I've ridden is okay on IRC's, but only okay. My Diablo Scoots and BT45's both stick better and turn in more predictably.

They did change the compound, but it was supposed to improve wet weather performance. No info on whether it was expected to be better or different other than that. After a reasonably swift ride today, I'm a little less enthused about them. I am more able to feel them giving up and folding a bit at max lean, the grip gets a little strange. They are perfectly fine for street riding, and perfectly safe; but there does reach a point where I think better tires would provide a bit more confidence. Ordering Diablo Rosso II's today.

Not the corsa just the Rosso correct? Seems like they get good grip and better life from what I am reading but don't have any real world peeps to hear from on this. I may get the Rosso first then a set of the corsa or 003rs for the track.

Yes sorry I should have been more specific. Which tire are you ordering the Rosso or Rosso Corsa?

After further research the Roso II seems like the best tire for street and track and the 003 and Corsa lean more to track dutythat get some low mileage street\track wear as far as mileage goes.

Excellent choice from all that I have read. I was set on the 003s until I understood more about the difference between the corsa and Roso II. I think in the end the RosoII will be the better tire until I hit the track with this bike on a regular basis.

The motorcycle superstore does have a good price.

I finally got into some twisties for the first time on the 300 today, and the stock tires weren't horrible for the street, but I don't think I wanna go deep into a turn without something stickier. Looks like the Pirelli option is good and sticky too, even if DOT's.

Maybe a 150 on back in the future but for me right now I do not know enough in regards to the bikes handling potentual to venture beyond stock size. I am sure with proper rubber the stock sizing will be more than enough for me for awhile.

4 inch rim = 140.

Stick with that size.. there is no advantage running a bigger tyre.

BT003's are in the correct sizes.

Bridgestone BT015s all the way. Have been running them on my CBR street and track for 3 years.

The stock tires are surprisingly good in a turn. I have almost dragged a knee with mine and although the grip will start to go hard in a turn, if you're doing it right (rolling on the throttle) it is very controllable and really quite fun feeling the limit of it's grip.

My CBR is my track bike now but if I decide to track the 300 (probably won't) I will probably consider the Bridgestone BT090. I have never run a track only tire so all the ones I look at are street/track but this tire comes in the stock 140 size. I don't see a reason to get a wider rear tire- it isn't going to improve handling and the bike doesn't need the extra traction during acceleration LOL

Any benefit of going 120/160 for bigger contact points? I finally got into some twisties for the first time on the 300 today, and the stock tires weren't horrible for the street, but I don't think I wanna go deep into a turn without something stickier. Looks like the Pirelli option is good and sticky too, even if DOT's.

I have never run a track only tire so all the ones I look at are street/track but this tire comes in the stock 140 size. I don't see a reason to get a wider rear tire- it isn't going to improve handling and the bike doesn't need the extra traction during acceleration LOL http://bridgestone.com/products/moto...lax/bt090.html
