Anyone suffer from 6th fear OCD?

Everytime I am winding up through the gears, I always try for one more click after I hit 6. I can count. I know I'm in 6th. The tach confirms it. But I still find myself reaching for that next gear. Anyone else do that?

Yeah, I've done that quite a few times. As Kelly is saying, it's all about the gearing. When I first got the bike I did it almost every ride.

Yup, I end up doing it on every bike that doesn't have a gear indicator on the dash. I think that's the best use of those indicators, actually.

When I'm in 6th and I reach for another gear, I get it...

If you send me 200 dollars to my paypal address, I will send you instructions on how to unlock the 7th gear on this bike. It's good for about 10hp.

It's not just the Ninja. I did it on my KLR650 too. It's a 5 speed but I was always hoping for one more. I get a bike that actually has 6, and now I want 7...

They get used up so quick, you want more. Although, I did the same thing with the 5 speed Buell. 20 gears wouldn't be enough. It's just fun to shift.

I do it. I'm not looking for another gear, just making sure I'm in sixth...even though I know I am.

I do it constantly. I like to be sure I'm in 6th to experience as good gas mileage as possible. It doesn't hurt the bike any to do that does it?

I also do it unintentionally, mainly on hot days where my tach is reading higher than on cold days... But then I also do it intentionally to ensure I am in top gear even though I know I am, I don't know why.

Definitely guilty. I'm still getting used to the bike, so when I hit 50 the bike sounds like there should be another gear there. At times, I have taken to counting as I go up through the shifts so I stop at 6. Embarassing!
