I also got mine off easily with an impact wrench, and adapter from my impact screwdriver to accept the bit.

Everything before that was useless... even the impact screwdriver itself (the kind you hit with a hammer). Although, at the time I didn't have a torch....

No attachments came with this one. they werent needed though. It didnt damage my grips at all. Instead of aiming inline with the bar I aimed it 90 degrees to the barend so only the end was grabbing the heat. I used an impact driver as well, but it didnt take much with the heat gun on it.

The parking lot situation kinda sucks. Extension cord? Or maybe a friends house. propane torch was another good idea. if that screw head is too damaged you might have to drill it out. You could get an extractor bit too. If you end up drilling, start with a larger bit to clean up the gnarled up head, then go into the bolt with a smaller bit.
Already done at great expense (see OP ).

I haven't installed my SV650 clip on bars which do fit my new universal bar ends so I've got the original bar ends back in with no Loctite (Floyd gave me one to replace the drilled-out one). I used a wire brush to clean it all out of the threads.

Sounds like success. Drill worked well enough? Congrats.
I'll agree somebody IS going red Loctite crazy at the factory

Success only after giving up and paying someone $37 to do it. It stings even more when I think about the cost of everything else (pencil torch, alternate torch, butane cylinder, impact screwdriver, etc). I guess one-time use tools from Harbor Freight aren't even that (my third pencil torch failed too; didn't get a single successful use). Not sure I learned my lesson because I'd still probably go for the cheaper, more portable tool next time!

I got it done with ease. The stock bar-end/handlebars might be bent a little but I don't need them now anyway since I have Woodcraft clip-ons But all I did was get vise grips on as tight as possible, I mean TIGHT onto the bar ends, then take a rubber mallet and just give it a good whack and it'll break that sucker lose no problem.

Bump. So I got one end off with an impact screw driver, sadly, my left bar wasnt so lucky and stripped completely (Idk why, it was a #3). Anywho, what do I do now? I keep hearing people drill off their stripped ones, but then how do you get out the end of the screw from the bike itself? Should I find where around here who can remove it for me? I.e. a mechanic or something? Help purty please.

drill out the head, until it just falls off. the bar end will come off too. then take a good pair of vice grips and the pc sticking out should remove fairly easy.

Out of curiosity, I need a new screw, so is it fine to ride without barends? The grips are glued in real tight, but I dont want to ride if they had a greater purpose...

I rode without for a while. Might be more likely to get a tank slapper... or less. *shrug*

Just will have some more vibration, may make your hands numb after awhile if you are especially sensitive to it. I ran woodcrafts without bar ends for thousands of miles without any problems...just a little vibration/buzzing.

Ah, gotcha.

Although perhaps ineffective for removing bar ends, I do love my little butane pencil soldering iron. I use it now more than the big electric soldering station, and not just because of the portability... which is very nice. I liken it to big electric stove top vs. a basic model gas range.

This is the case of "the right tool for the job." I didn't use any torches or heating elements to remove my bar ends. I bought a #3 JIS screw driver and took it off in 10 seconds. I use my #2 and my #3 JIS screw drivers when I work on the bike. Philips will strip out JIS screws pretty fast.

ehh or just use quality phillips drivers... like Snap-on =) to get mine out, i put a wet towel over the grips, hit it with a benzo torch, then took my #3 impact driver to it, came right out

Zombie thread...but oh well.

I didn't use heat at all. 24" Breaker bar with #3 Phillips socket. Came out with no problem at all.

I tried that out of desperation when nothing was working. When that failed I ordered the impact hammer that had attachments to but the included Phillips bit onto my pneumatic impact wrench. This was the only thing that would budge it for me, without a significant risk of stripping the screw head. I've been enjoying the Throttlemeisters I put in the stock ends place, although I very rarely lock the throttle.
