636 cheaper than a 250!?!
I feel like this is way too good to be true. But this just showed up on CL. I just sold my truck and paid off my 250 and still have about $4500 left over. This just seems like wayyyyy too good of a deal. As I'm sure some of you have seen in the past, this will be the 3rd bike that i've been interested in on CL. The first one was a scam, second one was a total piece of ****. This one looks to be along the same lines of the 1st try. What do you guys think?

no checks not because he got screwed but because they are traceable.
Also oversized sprocket could mean it was a stunt bike before. Could be lots of underlying damage. |

Oh come on people... Calm the **** down
Go take a look at it, who cares if it takes $500 to fix it up? Its still a lot cheaper then any other 636. Olny consider if hey lets you test ride it, feel the clutch, see if it shifts through all the gears, listen to it knocking or if its ticking, check the oil, if its dark black then leave

I guess the seller's attitude is what disturbs me. I try to read the person I'm buying from to determine if the bike has ever received a minute's attention. I like a seller who's fanatical about maintenance and cosmetics.
"but its a bike who doesn't drop it..." doesn't exactly give me the warm & fuzzies. But...I think you should go look at it. It looks really 'dingy' in the pictures, but that could be the camera. |

Go check it out, but take a friend if you can to watch your back. You never know. If he has clear title (check the VIN from the title, with the one on the frame), and lets you test ride it and seems legit go for it. Bikes are a gamble, sometimes you can buy low and sell high, or bust. If you're looking at keeping it I'd go for it.

First of all, thank you @Kevin2109 for the first real sensible reply.
Second of all... I just got back from the guys place, He was really cool but unfortunately it was the same story as bike #2 from craigslist. A total pile of ****. I rode the bike and it felt good. But the engine had a strange sound and the transmission was very clunky. Suspecting dirty oil, I asked the guy when the last time he had it changed was. His reply was extremely startling. This is exactly what he said, "The guy I bought it from said he changed it at about 4000 miles. He told me it would be good for another 10000 easy." I almost passed out. This poor bike had 12000 miles on it and had not had an oil change for over 8000 miles! That was the end of the conversation. I told him good luck with the sale and rolled out.

edit:
just read OPs reply. for that price, buy it and clean the engine up. it still runs. which means it still has decent compression and its not too far gone that things cant be repaired. take it as a project bike. you could easily get it back in top shape for less than what yoou would pay for one thats already in that shape. just do your own work.

His maintenance habits likely carry over to more things than just oil. And while there may be no obvious damage now from running oil that's depleted, it can bring an early doom to bearings, cam lobes, timing chain, etc. Not really a bargain if you consider a shortened life span.

I like how the guy describes it as a fade from blue to black....there is no fade there, its an "O ****, I screwed up my fairings from crashing my bike and replaced them with miscolored ones because I'm an idiot".

lol I dont think he meant "fade to black" in the way you think he did... I think he meant the blue fades to black, which is a bad description because it doesnt fade to anything, its blue and black there is no fade to the black. But I am guessing thats what he meant.

Come on dude, I highly doubt its legitimacy...a '08 zx-6r for $1700? It's most probably a ploy to attract moto-geeks like us, akin to bees drawn to honey, for some good 'ol stick up.

8000 miles is not necessarily that bad... If you look at some motorcycle owner manuals, they recommend a 7K oil change.

I'm still very tempted to go back and see the dude. Maybe see if I can talk him down to 2k. My problem is that i'm looking for a bike for myself. I'm not trying to make a quick buck by flipping fixing and flipping this bike. I actually want a new bike. And i'm thinking long term. So I need a bike that was well taken care of in the early stages of it's life so that it will last me quite some time.
