Should I have my bike shipped to me in AZ to avoid sitting through a NY Winter?

So I'm in college right now in Arizona, and my bike is at home in NY. I def will have the bike here next year when I live off campus to commute to and from school. My question is if I should have it shipped here to AZ now before the winter so it will at least get ridden a couple times a week rather than nothing at all while it is sitting in my garage through the winter in NY? I am a freshman living on campus. There are motorcycle parking spots all around campus and the parking permits are decently priced for bikes. Although I would not ride it everyday, I think being ridden two or three times a week plus on weekends in AZ is better than sitting in a garage for a NY winter. Any thoughts?

Arizona is HOT! At least in phoenix. Get it now and ride it during the winter since you won't be riding it as much in summer.

If you have the money to ship it, then it's a no-brainer really.

It'll cost you a small fortune to ship it to AZ and sitting in a garage wont hurt it. If you're at ASU...you'll prob have to leave it parked out in the open...and i believe you'll need to reg it in AZ if you'll be there for more than 6 months ???? Not a big deal but it seems a lot of trouble and expense....and then, you'll have to get it back next summer and that's a 6 night = 6 motel stops trip?
IMHO...leave it home.

If it where me, I'd rather have it with me so I could take advantage of the Az weather regardless of the price/inconvenience of getting it back to N.Y. Besides why even take it back up if you are going back to Az for the next school year. Just store it, go visit with family... heck u might not even want to go back up for more than a week or so....

Take it from a guy who lives in PHX and goes to school at ASU. Summer is hot but doesn't mean you can't ride. It just sucks. Just because its winter doesn't mean you can't ride your 250. I ride my 250 FULL YEAR ROUND. Winter - just have to bundle up a couple layers. You should bring because I feel like the best riding weather is in spring. Perfect riding weather (no rain, blue skies, light cool breeze, 75-80 degrees) oh yea!

i guess shipping has expense so you would have to look at that. But if you really like riding and are planning to be here for the whole year i would bring it.

your best bet is to just take a bus/train back home and ride it back to asu with you!
dont let it sit and rot away even if just for a summer thats ninja abuse!!!

it'll be cheaper if you take a train or bus and ride it back than shipping it to you(unless you have the money to blow..and arent an avid rider like me )

i would KILL to be able to ride that long trip.. i love riding and open road trips are the ****!!!

Did you "winterize" the bike? If so, I would leave it and cancel the insurance for however long you're away.

Riding to AZ is quite doable on the Ninja. A set of soft luggage--saddle bags, tank bag, and tail bag would hold anything you need. The rest of the stuff you need can always be shipped. You should also invest in a good MC Cover. AZ sun is quite intense. As for the route, check with Adventure Cycling Assn. for bicycle maps from NY to AZ. If the route is good for a bicycle, it is great for a motorcycle. I tour with my 250 and use bicycle maps exclusively. Interstates, at least for me, are a totally boring experience.
