fender eliminator questions
So are all fender eliminators illegal? i see a lot of people on here have them just wondering if they are legal or not. I was thinking about getting one but not sure which one. Saw people on here like the yoshimura and a couple others. Is it worth $100 for a kit?

It can vary by where you live, of course. I believe that in general (at least North America wise) so long as you have rear turn signals and a plate lamp you're okay. IANAL.

Haha thanks for the welcome. I just bought my 250 and was looking around at what people have done to them and have liked the look of the fender eliminator. Now it's just a decision of what one to get. Also does anyone know of good mirror extenders cause I can't see anything in my mirrors when I'm riding

Modify you stock fender and just make a 6" L bracket out of aluminum to mount the plate and blinkers. Costs maybe 2 hours of fun time with your bike and like $10 if that.

Yes, but like the aftermarket FE it's in the gray area.

Some states designate that the turn signals must be a certain distance apart, so if they're integrated into the tail light, then you'd violate that. I've seen where someone has put holes in the rear plastic areas of the fender and installed LEDs to illuminate when their brake lights go on, and you could do the same except make them blink as turn signals, in addition to your integrated tail light
As for the fender eliminator, I'd just do it yourself...chop it off, sand it, touch it up with paint if needed, then get some L brackets from home depot or wherever for your license plate...way cheaper and similarly effective. |

Here's my setup using the OEM fender. Originally I had a fixed bracket to hold the plate but for bridge tolls and other unsavory characters I changed it to a hinge. The hinge is illegal so I suggest you go with a solid L shaped braket, and the intergrated tail light and blinkers are also illegal but seldomly enforced so unless you go outa your way to piss off a cop they won't bother with you.

Nice video. Hmmm maybe I won't to the integrated tails to avoid getting pulled over lol. Does anyone have a how to for mirror extenders? Or anything I could do to see out my mirrors cause all I see is my shoulder lol

Thanks for the link ill look into those. They stick out far to actually be functional? Jason with the extra lights does that make your lights legal again?

My blinkers are more then 8-9" apart but I think they are to far away from the brake light(to far forward) to legal. If you go the route of modding your fender like I did I'd be happy to make you a braket to mount the licence plate but it so easy to make your self I say why not. |

Licence plate bolts with built in led lights to light the plate after you chop the fender. They're online or any local cycle gear.

Where would I look up the law for a specific state with the taillight? I Google it but cant seem to find an answer. I talked to a guy at my work and said he has had an integrated taillight on his r1 for years and hasn't had a problem

Your states DMV site should have a link on it to motor vehicle regulations somewhere, you just need to search at bit. Just a note, I had a rather serious incident with the police awhile back where they detained me for around 45 mins in the back of a police car trying to pin any infractions against me but in the end they couldn't prove anything so they let me go clear and free. My bike all the while was exactly as it was in the video and they never said anything about my mods so I'd say I'm rather safe A ninja 250 can out run a single motorcycle cop but escaping a dozen cops closing in on you in the middle of a city from every direction is a bit more challenging |

On the Ama website under the state of idaho it says turns signals are not required on the road? Does that mean an integrated taillight is ok?

Everywhere I can find also says turn signals are not required in Idaho by Idaho State Law. Huh. But it's required by federal/DOT law.
If it isn't required by State Law, the Idaho State police shouldn't be able to ticket you? As others have said, don't be an ass, be visible, and you shouldn't have issues. |

You could also ask a motorcycle cop or try and contact a state inspector. Document who, when, badge number, and what they said just to cover yourself though.
