Just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance with State Farm

Well, I've always heard how cheap state farm is for bike insurance but up until recently, my driving record was horendous so they would not write me a policy. (1 accident, 2 tickets). Well, both of those tickets are off my record this year and I just got a new quote for insurance for both my bikes and my car. The car quote was not so competitive compared to my current rate but the bikes were sooo much lower at about 55/mo for full coverage for both my 250 and CBR.

I haven't switched yet since I already paid my insurance bills for this month but next month, I'll be set. My new rate for all 3 of my vehicles will be a tad lower than what I'm paying now for JUST my car!

Just thought I'd share in case anybody was currently shopping insurance.

Cheaper insurance = more trackdays for me.

Well it depends on the varies factors of your Deductiable,Comp, too.
since i dont have health insurance, i took the $25,000 medical, $500 deductiable, $500 comp.
My Insurance is $354/Yr, Plates $26/Yr. the Lowest possible for my Ninja 250R wouldve been $240/Yr! So for like $100 more, i just wanted taht Medical, in case i get hurt (not too seriously i hope) lol

Oh im with State Farm also, and by Far the cheapest from others, the 2nd lowest rate was with All State: $459
Some others.. Progressive wanted $1,583/Yr.
Nationwide wanted $721/Yr
Farmers Ins. wanted $1,229/Yr
my AAA doesnt even Cover Motorcycles

My State Farm agent was a HOT 27 year old girl!

When State Farm dropped our house, I wanted to drop them for the cars & truck. Kinda pissed nobody could beat there price, I didnt want to give them any money after the house thing

Geico thru Navy Federal has an "awesome" deal, until my till my MVR comes up. Maybe one day I can switch over.

You might want to send a PM to Nick before you make the switch - I love state farm which is who we're with and our insurance is cheap for full coverage, but he got really burned with them- njd022588

The only problem I have with statefarm is that they have no loyalty benefits. For my second year with them they wanted to raise the price for liability-only while every new quote I got would cost less for full coverage. So now I'm with Jevco at $400 less than Statefarm and with full coverage and a smaller deductible... For people over 25 and/or with a car, though, I think Statefarm is generally the best. Just check for new quotes every year and you might save money.

State Farm

State Farm has insured my house and all of my vehicles for 35 years. Same agent for all of those years, he sends my wife and I birthday cards every year. My rate on the 2001 was $95 a year, full coverage. For some reason (steal appeal?) the '08 is more like $160. I have had very few claims, but they have treated us well.

So, this thread got me to do the NFCU Geico quote again. They can do cars & truck(same coverage) for the price SF wants for our truck.

Time for a change

I checked with SF for switching over because Progressive keeps raising my rates (I started out at $68 for my car and $30 for my motorcycle a month now I am up to $78 for my car and $35 for my bike. No accidents no tickets, thus no claims) THey say it is because the rate in my area went up. Aside from having them put a little black box in my car that monitors my driving there were no discounts avaliable to me. So I searched around.

Statefarm first qouted me $75 for my car and $15 for my bike. I was going to switch so when I had the money to switch (two days later, qoute is good for ten days I believe) they changed it to $89 for the car and $30 for the bike!! I was like there is no savings there for me at all!

So sadly I am still with Progressive.

Thats what I said. They said they install this box and it monitors your speed and how quickly and often you break. I am sure it watches other things but this is what they mentioned. Based on that they adjust your rate. So you would either have a higher rate or lower rate.

Living where I do I break often because people around me are scary drivers. Sometimes it has to do with defensive driving vs breaking because I am doing something wrong ya know?

f*ck that.

I would have told them they can shove their black box up their black hole!

No way would I have something like that in my car from my insurance company!

ya thats sounds like invasion of privacy. For all you know, they're monitoring your visited locations, recording conversations etc... I'm not a paranoid man, but that sounds ridiculous. Even just to record speed and braking... I would've told them to MYOB

my mother-in-law is my state farm agent and she just told me today that everyones rates will be going up about 4% really soon, and then all the other insurance companies will follow right along and do the same. i have 2 new cars and my bike and my house with them. i cant complain much because every now and then she calls and tells me that she found another discount and applies it to my accounts. but that also works in reverse, she calls and tells me when things are moving up. just thought i'd throw that info out there in case anyone is interested. it seems state farm will make the jump first, then the other companies will soon follow. she said it has a lot to do with all the flooding and tornadoes and stuff going on lately, all the insurance companies have had to pay out a ton of money in claims so they are all trying to make up for some of that.

The agent I just spoke to told me rates are going down about 8% next month.

Just an FYI - I shop my insurance coverage every year to find the best deals. I just keep a one page document with my license info, home/vehicle/toy info, and coverage. I update it every year over the Christmas holiday, send it out to a handful of direct and independent agents, and pick the lowest rates.

I have been with many different insurance companies over the years and stayed with some for as little as 1 year and others for 2-3 years, as long as their rates stayed competitive. Every insurance company rates things differently, and they seem to change up the way they rate things every year. Some weight driving history more than credit history and some go the other way. It really pays to shop around for insurance.

I just went and checked on insurance yesterday at state farm. The bike will be titled in my parents name so that I can still be on their insurance, but I will be the primary driver. They quoted me $81/month for a 250 and $174/month for a 650r. I'm 20 with no prior motorcycles.

Mine just went up $10 - got the bill today. I've emailed my agent, and my old Nationwide agent who is a friend of the family - NOT cool state farm!

I switched to them because they were who my hubby used and it was easier to add to his policy when we married rather than start all new policies , as I had still be on my parents' due to grad school - but since they're being , I'm not going to sit there and watch the rates climb for no reason. I've got 14 years of a clean driving record - they should be going down, not up!

I had State Farm for years and never even considered changing companies until a couple of years ago when I had to add my son to my policy, when I got that quote I'm glad I was sitting down because I almost fell out of my chair. I had a friend who is an insurance agent check some prices for me and found out that I had been paying way too much. I changed companies and even after adding my son I still saved money.

The bad news is that my son had a minor accident in Feb., he bumped a car in the rear, possibly due to black ice. Less than a 5 mph impact that did not even do any damage to his car, he did not even get a ticket. I contacted the insurance company and thought everything was fine until I received my insurance renewal last month. My insurance went up $1000 a year!!!! When I called my agent I found out that the #%$^^$ that my son bumped later claimed personal injury and somehow managed to run the claim up over $8000 I checked with several other companies and because of the accident they are all double what I am currently paying.

I did a little investigating (advantage of being in a small town) and found out that the girl had done this before. Probably just trying to get pain meds. I contacted my insurance agent and the state insurance commissioner and there is nothing that I can do. I have been paying insurance for almost 30 years and never had a claim. One very minor incident and I have gone from top tier rates to almost their worst rates instantly.
