The author of that article failed to mention that people were leaving the state because the economy of the entire US failed and companies picked up and moved out of state, which brought a small portion of the population with them. How or why the author chose to equate a "dream" with population growth is beyond me.

Depsite all of California's issues and the things I dislike about the idea of living there, Pennsylvania isn't really any better IMHO. Both are nice places to visit every once in a while though.

At least California has nicer weather.

EDIT: feel free to take jabs at Arkansas.

Nah, not too badly. The Golden Gate is pretty easy to ride on because there's always so much traffic/tourists that speeds are relatively low. I can't remember there being a crazy amount of wind there any of the times I've ridden across (maybe a couple dozen times).

The Bay Bridge is much scarier to ride on, IMHO, because of the traffic, but the way that it's built (double decker) keeps the wind from really hitting you. I hate riding (or driving, really) on the Bay Bridge and avoid it whenever possible.

It's a gorgeous bridge though:

Where the wind really can make it hard to ride is on the Dumbarton and San Mateo bridges, the two on the peninsula. I've had some tough crosswinds on those guys many times. Fun stuff!

I was born and raised in California so I personaly know that there are more good things to love than the few bad things about Cali.
Every State and every Province have their good and bad points.

You can't really go fast enough on the GGB to get taken by the wind too dangerously. I think the speed limit is 45 and it IS enforced. Though it's still dangerous for other reasons. You have all the tourists walking it with their hats blowing into the road, the tourists driving it, completely oblivious to traffic around them because they're busy sightseeing, and the people who don't care about the speed limit and insist on weaving through traffic at 60+. And the people who hit the yellow lane dividers and fling them into other cars that get freaked out and weave to avoid them. It's a crappy combination. That said, the bay bridge is just as bad if not worse due to the generally stupid drivers.

QFT. I regularly commute over the 84/Dumbarton and it's bad before a shower rolls thru. I had to tuck all the way in and slightly lean the bike yesterday to go in a straight line.

Pittsburgh is a great city. I spend a week there every year. I just got back last Saturday actually. But the roads there suck, as do the drivers. The weather can be nauseating (and it was), and if you've never heard a picksburgese accent, it'll make you want to choke the life out of whoever's speaking. They make bostonians sound like English scholars.
