Can any damage occur to the engine in a lowside?
Recently lowsided the bike, it slid on its left side and hit a sign post with the fuel tank, denting it where it meets the seat. The bike was started the next day, sounded fine. I would just like to know if there could be any other damage besides what is cosmetic/obvious. Can I still ride with a dented tank, or will it affect the vaccum in the fuel line or something? It costs like ~$350 for the tank so If I can make do with out it I can just replace fairings, clutch lever, and shifter.
Also, what are the fairings in the back of the bike that wrap around the rear seat called? I can't seem to find them on the site I'm looking at for oem parts. |

as long as it's not leaking, you can ride with a dented fuel tank, if that's the question.

Make sure to check the swingarm and rear axle carefully. If you contacted the tail fairings you probably did some damage to it. Mine was totalled by the insurance inspector even though it looked fine to me.

the motor should be fine unless you managed to crack or grind through your side cases, but that'd be visually obvious. especially if its spewing oil.
i'd loosen up your triples and realign your forks (i think theres a DIY on this somewhere on here), and try to make sure your swing arm and stuff isn't binding up any. it should be fine.

As long as the bike isn't bleeding you should be fine. You should inspect the entire bike and make sure there is nothing else broken or out of alignment, and then take it for a little, gentle spin arround the block. If it rides fine, then just fix the cosmetic stuff. The tank should be fine dented as long as it doesn't leak.
