I've milled a lot of things,I have pictures of it,maybe if you could tell me the name of some simple picture editing program,in which I can mark things, and I'll upload pictures so you can see.... I'm measuring the distance between the rim and the swingarm, and it has to be the same on both sides, like it was on original ninja 250 rim, cca 30 or 31 mm has to be on each side with 650r rear rim..and to align sprockets and chain,I measured 18mm from rear swing arm to sprocket on ninja 250's rim and it has to be like that when I put 650r wheel and sprockets...simple as that...

so you are saying we need to find a 4 inch rear rim to swap. that way it will be easier to line up and will still accept a 150\60 just fine. I found a zxr250 rim on ebay, I have heard its a direct swap, is this true?

Alright guys, would an offset rear sprocket fix the alignment issues, and if so, does one exist or would it be difficult to make?
or even a 2 piece sprocket, get the sprocket closer to the wheel without modifying the sprocket hub? EDIT I am going to email a couple of companies that make custom sprockets, if we took the 650r rim and centered it, how many milimeters would the sprocket be off? Thanks |

I'd double check your measurements. From what i can see from your pictures, it looks as if you cut enough off the sprocket hub alone to make this work.

can you please upload a picture of what excatly you've meant to mill, what part of sprocket hub ? and if you do that, then the rear sprocket will go closer to swingarm but the rim could be centered.

What I was saying is I thought you had already milled the hub far enough. If you mill much further, the chain will begin to rub on the edge of the tire. Double check to make sure your the wheel is or is not centered. Here's a couple pics of the "Big Foot" kit and the results we are trying to duplicate. I realize these are all "new" parts but this is possible so don't give up.

Here's some other's that may help.
Again I'd like to stress what method you are using to center the rear rim. That's one of my questions to myself is how to know that the rim is in fact centered prior to taking measurements for milling the hub. Takes a week to get something milled here and at $150 an hour, I just want to make sure my measurements are right the first time.

I'm not sure that is the best way to measure. The objective is to make sure the rear wheel is following the front one. We need to figure out a way to determine if the position of the rear tire is aligned with the front and not just measuring off of the swingarm. Btw... that is a 150/60/17 I believe.

Both 650 and 250 rotors are the same diameter?
also what is the total distance between both sides of the swingarm on the 250? |

Finishing up this thread since questions about how to center 650 wheel was never fully answered. Yes, you have to move sprocket in towards wheel by machining sprocket carrier. But this does NOTHING to move wheel itself, only the sprocket.
Second part that needs to be machined is left SPACER. Remove 6.5mm from that and it moves wheel 6.5mm to left to centre in swingarm. Then machine 6.5mm from brake-caliper holder/spacer on right and that's it, you're done! Drawing some pictures really helps with stiff like this. Hand-drawn on napkins is still better than nothing. |
