A ride on the mountain.
I took the day off and went for a ride on the XR650L....
and I honestly think that it is the best bike I've ever owned ! it is agile so you can easily miss obstacles in the road like tree limbs or rocks of which there were many on this ride.... I went up Stewart's Springs Road... till I hit snow on the road and then turned around and went back home.... T'was a good ride ! about an hour and a half long. this road goes up and over a mountain, it's paved and usually clear and is on national forest land. a very beautiful ride ! .... here's a few pics I took. .... Bob.......

Wait, is this Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Rd, or something else? Isn't that ~300 miles south of Weed?
EDIT: Nevermind, I see that there's a Stewart Springs Rd right in Weed, which is almost certainly the one that you're referring to.

Yes....actually just outside of weed , the road is a paved wide one lane road that goes over the mountain to Callahan... a tiny town in the middle of nowhere
....this road goes through national forest land and is fairly well maintained by them, they did just put up a sign that says 7 days limit to over night camping that was not there last year. the goal is to go all the way to Callahan this summer sometime... I've never been all the way through before. it is a steep mountain.... and a good workout for the TT250 so stopping and resting about half way up is a good idea to let them cool the XR650L took it with no complaints although did give me trouble starting at that altitude I expect it's about 9,000'ASL at the pass up there.... maybe a bit higher. ....that was the "Shake down Ride" for the XR650L and I had only one issue besides the mirror being too loose.... the Samdo Speedometer is very wrong when doing about 60mph it reads 30MPH.... and there is supposed to be a way to set the tire size on the speedo but I do not know how to do that.... it's one of those, you gott'a get it in the correct mode to set it and I can't figure out how to do that ! ... it seems to be a different mode than setting or re-setting the trip meter and clock.... I looked on line but could not find any info on it other than you can select the tire size.... and the 21" front tire is about twice as big as it is set for right now.... .... I am hoping the instruction booklet will give a hint.... but I doubt it. calling the instruction booklet "cryptic" is being generous ! ![]() ..... Bob.

I did finally figure out how to set the speedo on the bike ....
you poke the left button turn the key on and hold till it initialized... then you are in the set mode.... there is a few numbers on the screen 3 didgets then a space and 2 didgets the 3 didgets are the setting for the speedometer.... at the moment I have it set on 017 I think, and that is fairly close . I took it for a ride and stopped several times to re adjust it but it's not right yet.... I need a reference to get it any closer.... like a phone gps speed or something like that i don't know about that I've never tried that with my phone ! LOL but it may well be the cure ! or I can hook up the old speedo and bungee cord it to the forks and use it ! .... by far the XR650L is my favorite bike that I have at the moment.... and that is saying something because the Ninja and Triumph are very good ones ! but I like the lightness of the XR it doesn't feel heavy ! it is.... but it doesn't feel that bad ! and I can blast it up to 60mph in a heart beat ! it's a fun bike ! ..... Bob......
