This cat is not out of a Ninja 250, but another Kawi. You can expect to see something very similar.

There is none in the California oem pipes. I don't expect there to be one in any of them if cali models don't have them

I think its all the back in the muffler, not the pipe.

Kidding, right? I though I read a second cat was in the area of the mid pipe? If it is only in the slip on, great! I've "seen" quite a few so know what they look like. I was expecting to need to cut & gut the mid to get a good look at one for the 300. Far better if it isn't there to be "looked" at. |

You'd have to open up the muffler to know for sure. The pdf brochure from Kawasaki on the 300 states that the cat is only on the collector pipe and not in the silencer. The ambiguity is whether this is different for Euro vs. Cali vs. 49 state spec.

Yeah, I have a feeling there is one in the collector too and that will require surgery to be seen.
I asked the Area P guy about it too, I'll follow up if I find anything else out. |

you can test this by sticking a snake down the headers. it comes out the other side. wouldn't happen if there was a cat. edit: just realized this is 300s... not sure if its the same. probably different with efi.

Cats are a substrate that exist in honeycomb or even screen styles. I have screen style hi-po cats in my car exhausts.
Looks like the header will be coming apart! |

Correctomundo. I can take pics of my stock exhaust later. I cut open the header and there is nothing in there. Two cats in the slip and a resonance header in the exhaust. That is it.

Ah, OK, different animal there. I'll post up what I find unless someone gets one open first.
Thanks |

Yeah, this is the 3-hunsky forum, doods/doodette, and b/c of the EFI the 300 only needs 1 cat, not 2 like the two-fiddy.

you probably should stick a firm tube down the header before you cut anything open... if the tube goes through you can be sure there isn't a cat there.

That is debris in the bottom pic where you should see the two header tubes. It is easily cleaned out and ready to weld back together from what I read.
No actual animals were injured in this series of pics. Saw, drill, hammer, flat screwdriver and 10 minutes of time. Add a breakfast to bribe a welder buddy and track only headers ready to go. I'll have them back on the bike by tomorrow morning for weekend track testing. |

Test ride today after welding it back together. No noise increase over my Akra open Ti slip on, feels like it has a real hit off the bottom, pulls the forks to top out harder for sure. I can't feel any "jetting" problems, fuels just as well as stock. No popping on decel, maybe a slightly louder burble when you just touch the throttle on decel but no real difference there.
All good and it cost me a lunch for my buddy and under 30 minutes total wrench time. Tuner time!!! |

The relevant pics are posted above. The re-attached pipe looks just like stock with a bead of weld around it.
