2009 tach died today. Why?

I read about 15 pages of bickering and opinions across different forums, but no solid proof of what causes the issue or what the fix is

Rode the bike. It was a hot day. Bike was driven over 30 miles and suddenly the tach stopped.

What do I need to buy to fix this. All the other stuff works ex: speedo fuel etc
Bike did seem to idle a bit rough too at this point

Wow. Really? A $300 CDI? Looked at it again when it's cooled down. Still not working.

Is it a bad idea to take the electronic box from my 2010 and try it in the 09 to seed if that is the problem or not?

If you have access to one, try it.

Don't worry about having a tach. The 2009 has a rev limiter. Just wind it up until the rev limiter kicks in, then shift.

Well I'd like to have it in 100% working order. Also it was running a bit rough at idle If I can fix this , I'd also like to add a manual fan override too

Well. Switched those electric boxes from both bikes. Same thing

So now I ripped the cluster out. Take it apart. I can clearly feel the pulse coming off the tach leads. But zero response on the gauge.
Take the gauge apart. Using a battery I can operate the gauge but once it's all together and plugged into the bike, it only blips when you first start the bike

So ya. Guess the gauge is shot? Seems odd. Hope this isn't what to expect from the rest of the parts.
