Less than 4k mi. on '09 ninjette . Battery already dead

Here is my story.

My bike would not start up (light up) whatsoever once at around 3,000 miles but miraculously woke up a day before. The battery 800 miles later this morning died on me again when I tried to start her up. By God's grace the ninjette started. Even though I had more errands left today, I knew I could not risk it any longer so I went directly to my friends house to get this checked out. If push came to shove, I was going to go back to the stealership that day.

We checked the voltage left in my battery. The needle on the meter barely went up to 1 volt. 1 VOLT! So, I took the battery to auto zone and they kindly charged the battery for free. 6 hours later, put the battery back in, and now there are no problems during start up.

One big difference I saw after the charge up @ auto zone, was that the headlight did not flicker. (I thought that this was just how the bike was supposed to run) So if any of you ride at night and see your headlight flicker here and there, I strongly suggest checking your battery! (Many of you probably already know this? but I'm just trying to help someone out)

Actually, I strongly suggest checking your battery anyways. I think that maybe kawi put crappy batterys in the ninjette to shave off for shipping costs?

Well, I hope this helps someone in the future.

Did they also load test your battery to make sure it's not defective? Did you check your charging system? Usually a battery won't just up and die on it's own unless it's being overcharged repeatedly or over drained repeatedly.

If your headlight is flickering while running, it sounds a whole lot like you're having alternator/regulator issues. Worth checking it out before investing in somehting else to make sure that it can handle the load.

Howard, it's really easy to drain the battery on our bikes - ask me how I know! Just leaving it 'on' for 10-15 min with the lights on, but without running can be enough to kill it - no offense, but I think it was more likely the rider's fault than the bike's...

There's going to be the occasional flaw, and that's why the bike comes with a warranty. Isn't the battery covered on a brand new bike?

i doubt the stealership wouldnt honor warranty crap like that. i honestly hate them and don't like talking to them at all, gives me a headache. so i try to go only if i have a solid game plan where they cant throw a curve ball at me.

I made the mistake of leaving the key in my bike after parking it in a friends driveway. Unfortunately, that meant the headlight still stayed on.

That was the first time I ever push started the bike. Luckily the driveway was sloped so I didn't really have to push.

i actually have none, all stock bulbs, I actually think LEDs would lessen the load on the battery, no?
