Ok, so I just got my bike last week and I have been practicing. I have been taking it easy, breaking it in and all. So, my friend (who has been riding 12 years plus) got on and showed me how to ride it tonite in a parking lot. I have a MUCH better idea of how to get the speed up to shift. Holy CRAP this bike is FAST. It has a LOT more speed than I thought. I am a little nervous but glad I chose this bike for my 1st. It is quick and light. Anyone else surprised by the power in this little bike ?

I was surprised at how pronounced the torque curve was.

have you checked out the race videos in the video section?

these bikes are very speed capable if ridden correctly.

i was impressed with the power these bikes have too. i had been breaking the bike in on the conservative side. AS SOON AS i was finished breaking it in, i opened her up all the way. i was like WOW!!! i never knew it had that much potential.

Yeah they are pretty quick little 250s :P. Its fun not having to worry much about giving it too much gas and spinning the rear tire, like on some bigger bikes.

This bike will surprise even the most experienced rider with what it is capable of. This is a not only a "beginers bike" but also a very fun and capable bike for those of us that have riding experience.

Granted this is my first bike and I have no idea how fast larger sport bikes are, but I am no stranger fast cars. I've opened the throttle 3/4ths of the way on the Ninja 250r and I already think I'm faster than most cars on the road. Although its a 250, its not a 250 cruiser, its a 250 sport bike, theres a huge difference. This thing is geared for torque and speed. I don't think i'll be bored of it anytime soon.

This is my forth bike (still have third) and my second year riding with somewhere over 22k miles under my belt between the 4 of them.

This 250 is going to have a home in my garage for some time.

I agree with Daeldren, this bike does very well in the twisties. A whole different experience than the cruisers I have ridden.

I have to admit that I was ashamed of the 250. It is lacking in the 'looks department' and the fact that it is one-fourth the size of a litre bike I certainly had doubts.

About two weeks ago I attended a local bike meet, sponsored by a shop, at Boston's, which is on the opposite site of the metro area from me. The main highway that runs down there would have been the quickest route but I opted for the 'scenic' route through suburbia. After the meet I thought that I'd try to ride the highway home...

... sure enough, the lil'ninja that could certainly gained the needed speeds to hang with, and even pass, the highway traffic. Upon riding home that night I managed to sustain a healthy speed of 80mph without breaking a sweat. Since then I have been more proud of it. I certainly take my time on corners as its still fitted with the stock K630's(yuck) which dont exactly inspire confidence.

that's because you had a green one. you should have opted for one of the slower colors if you didn't want to go so fast.

Agreed... green is the fastest overall with S.E. green being just a little bit faster still.

Could be less wind resistance over the white vinyl, or perhaps something different in the paint.

sorry, the SE's are just a bit slower due to the mixing of the non green paint.

Kawasaki had to do something to slow the all green bikes down when the 08 owners went crying to their dealerships about how much slower their bikes were than the green ones.

Actually, it has nothing to do with the color of the paint, it's that Kawasaki wants their cooperate image of their green bikes being fastest, so they do special engine work at the factory level of every green bike they release. It's nothing major, but it does insure the green ones are the fastest for this reason. Every bike is dynoed before leaving to make sure the green ones have more power than the rest. All records are kept in a secret archiving section that very few even know exists.... it's true!

They actually had to detune the 09 SE due to massive protests of the non green bike owners... who can blame them, though?

Heh, why do you think they discontinued the Silver option? Elementary my dear Watson: Silver was obviously the fastest, the sheer speed that it was capable of was too much for the consumer, so much that the terror experienced by ones that witnessed its power became a safety issue to others.

This is true, i just got my licence but still havnt received my plates from dmv !?!?!?! My rear plate says "Licence Applied For." Ive gone past plenty of cops and no one's pulled me over yet. You'd figured they think i was some kid on a permit without another rider like is manatory.
