WOW! Sucks to the droppage. Reading this thread has been like reading a fairytale. "Of Mike and Bike". A strapping' young lad meets his fairytale black-clad princess (excellent color choice, btw), and then they have their first incident.
Glad to hear you're both ok. If it helps any, mine is scarred on the entire left side due to the previous owner dumping her at an intersection. I'm still getting around to replacing the fairings...
As for riding, I live in MA, she stays with the parents in NH, and I don't trust wet/cold with two wheels. So, its been a while since I've ridden, and it may be a long, cold winter.
For the record, I hear ya on the droppage. I came to a stop on a right-incline parking lot where I live, and when i stopped, my weight shift went forward(braking), then back and my legs decided to take the weight like I was on level ground, not cantered to the right. So, at around 1 in the morning, theres a very loud rev (twobro. exhaust no less) and "UNNG!" as my bike tipped to 40 degrees to the ground, and I'm cranking the throttle uncontrollably trying to pull her upright. Thankfully saved, but one of those ">.<!" kind of moments...

Sorry to hear that man. I know I am patiently waiting for my license and bike this spring. I'm super pumped I couldn't imagine dropping it on the first ride. It's always risk though.

Keep rolling!

Got the part today, the bracket that holds the footpeg. Will be installing it in the next day or 2.

sorry to hear about the drop Mike. Be careful when you put on the new rearset to be sure you know where all of the components of the brake pedal go - take a picture or two before you disassemble if you haven't already - it's annoying to put back in place, but not impossible.

Installed the plate by myself using tools from the toolbag, first time doing anything with tools substantially on any vechile yet alone my bike. Took it for a ride, felt good, then took some pictures -- will post them up soon.

Tomorrow going to buy oil and whatever else for an oil change -- hopefully its not that hard.

+1 for getting back in the saddle

Did you figure out what actually caused your fall?

Oye ve Mike, what a bummer on the drop but very glad you didn't let it stop ya. Grats on finding the bike and getting her up & rideable again so quick (despite the fact I'm sure it felt like an eternity). You're one up on me though, you got home before a drop; I didn't even get out of the parking lot of the previous owner before I dropped mine and put holes in 2 fairings.

But you're on the right track: practice, practice, practice. Good luck, and keep up the ATGATT!

I reckon it was just me and my inexperienced, misjudged a small incline and accelerated maybe a little bit too hard.

Good choice, especially in hindsight seeing what happened. Great-looking bike, once you go black...

Went to buy some stuff today, brought oil (Valvoline Engine Armour 10W-40 Synthetic), WD-40, chain lube (Sikolene), and a bike cover. Changed the oil and cleaned/lubed the chain all by myself, I'm quite happy and I feel good that I did it by myself being that its the first time for me doing anything involving engines etc.

Also gave the bike a little clean, nothing special, just sponge and bucket. Looks verrrrrrry nice

Well, I went to my local Kawasaki dealership to ask how much for the rearset 'plate'. Was only looking for the plate which holds the pegs, not the whole rearset. Cost $136, coming in on Monday or Tuesday next week. I could have bought new adjustable rearsets but my mum's hippocket would have been hit hard .. $400-500 for adjustable rearsets. So this will do for now, later on when I'm getting an income I'll consider swapping them out for aftermarkets as well with the clip-ons.

Well, got a few days to wait till I can ride again, I can't bloody wait. Been sitting at home spewing over my fall, just itching to get on the bike and ride it.

So, just waiting ...

sorry to hear about the fall man,
I know you're eager to ride and $ may be an issue fixing things but I'm sure you can get adjustable rearsets for $300 or less.. it's a wiser investment than just the stock ones which are made of some cheap compound and will snap very easily.. I know first hand. if you do go that route of investing in better replacments, talk to ztrack and see what sets he has in stock as I'm sure you know his prices arent that bad and quality seems ok or better.

myself, I paid $260 for my knockoff adjustable rearsets and even when downed help up pretty well. I think they sell the sames ones I have on ebay too, from somehwere in thailand.
