Need quick advise, help, SOS

I'm possibly buying a used 08 250r, with salvaged title(fixed crashed bike. At least 70% cost of new to fix, its a cheap bike so plastics alone are almost 40%. But i'm guessing at damage that was fixed, will ask, don't expect a straight answer.)

I need to do this in the next hour if at all. What must I absolutely look for, the bike is being sold by a fix and sell outfit, they will guarantee mechanically.

The bike has 445 miles, asking $3500. I think it will go for $2,800-$3,000.(+ $200 for new title) Brand new at dealer its $4800 cash out the door.

Should I go used or new. New is blue, used is black.
I still have to get a helmet, gloves, jacket etc. So every penny counts.

Please help, need to do this quick.

The MSRP for the '08 250 was $3500, asking that for a used salvage means the guy is trying to screw someone. Assuming their is no visible major damage, $1500.

Personally, I would call him on his crap, go over every inch of the bike, then offer him $1000 max.

I would look for a used bike, but NOT a used salvaged bike. Plenty of people have picked up mint condition 2008s for under 3500. Keep looking.

$4700.00 cash out the door, Gables Motorsports. Will be ready on Tuesday.

Was hopping to finance, but the Banks thought otherwise. Which in the long run saved me some finance and loan charges, but it was a large chunk of green to hand someone across a desk.(specially these days) Still very affordable in a showroom filled with 10 grand and up machines. I could see 4 grand easily being the downpayment for a CBR1000rr.

Tony (sales) and Mike (manager) were excellent and very straight forward. Very good experience, I would recommend and will definitely go back for my next bike.

They even threw in a Shoei RF1100 for $340. Nice!

Kawasaki.com lists the US MSRP for the 2010 250R at $4299. Shouldn't the cash out the door price be even lower than that? o_O

MSRP doesn't include tax, and doesn't include a few other fees that usually apply (registration, doc fees, setup, freight, etc.). For most bikes, it's considered a good deal if the price is discounted such that the total out the door price comes out to around MSRP (so the price is below MSRP, but the other taxes/fees bring it back up to right around the MSRP level). For top-selling bikes though, sometimes it's hard to get the price down to even that point.

Okay, thanks Alex. Here in Europe, the prices tend to be listed with tax and all the other silly fees, so one typically pays less than the listed price. 10% under listing price would be a good deal here. I paid €4490 instead of the listed price of €4890 last year.

7% sales tax adds another 300, so that alone puts the bike up to 4600. Another 100 to cover doc and reg fees....he got a pretty good deal on the bike.

Congrats. I called the place you got your from and they quoted me insanely high (almost 5,000 if I remember right, back in 08 when the msrp was only 3500). Glad to see they have come to their senses or have new management.

Yeah, I would agree, the salvaged bike is a NO GO. Invest your money in a new bike or a used bike with a clean title. I had a bad experience buying a used Ninja off of Craigslist. It just isnt worth all the hassle dealing with a broken, screwed up bike. Peace of mind is worth more than the cheapie price tag....

They were nice enough to swallow some of the costs, assembly, shipping, etc.
Registration was $200. 7% Sales tax. Plus they nocked of almost 25% off a new $420 lid. The initial deal with some frame savers, and green limited edition color(decals I would have taken off anyways, wasted $) for financing came to about $6800.00

I think my friend cash helped us see eye to eye. The bank only had $20's so my friend looked very intimidating sitting on the desk. All and all, I feel it was a good purchase.

They run about $4700 out the door here too. Full MSRP + fees, zero wiggle room.
