Why is Kawi's break in recommendation...

...always 4,000rpm for 500 miles and 6,000 for 500-100 miles? I remember going to the dealer and looking at all the bikes. On the speedo or tach, it had that little sticker with that info. But it was the same on all bikes whether it had a 6,000 redline or 13,000. How can the break in RPMs be the same for all engines? That can't be right??

By any chance did you take a look at the link I posted in Nacho Ninja's thread about Motomans method?

If not, here it is.

Personally this is my favorite method of breaking in an engine..

i followed motoman's break in, changed out the oil and filter about 4 times before i brought the bike in to the dealer for their "recommended" 1st oil change at 500Km.

bike is running good, im at about 12.000 Km now.

What's wrong with changing your oil a few times during break-in? Oil is pretty cheap to begin with, and so are crappy filters.

Motoman actually recommends the first oil change at 20 miles when using his method. I didn't believe this until I did it and my oil was FULL of metal shavings and junk. Even the second oil change at 300 miles had a good amount of shavings in it, and some gasket junk too.
