What do you think of this Clock/Thermometer Display?

Since I have already wired in my LED lights and socket (Here: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=94836), I wanted to get a LCD display with a backlight on in. My plan is to get this and wire the back light to the switch so that when I turn my lights on the backlight will light up. I think this will work. The display is on batteries and I was going to put it in the dash above the speedometer after chopping off the outlet and direct wiring it. The line is already 12v for everything else, so no worries there.

What do you guys think? I just don't want to have to try and hit a backlight button on a clock to see what time it is at night.

Edit: Or this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-LCD-Scre...-/110795306346

That thing looks like it takes batteries too. Why would you need a 12V connection?

The backlight is powered by the DC adapter. So if I wanted it to light up at night, I'd need to hard wire it in.

Oops I missed that, but I get it now

It should work, as long as you don't overload anything. Seeing as how you said you've got everything set up I think it would be an awesome addition to a clock-less dash / old skool dash. You'd probably want to waterproof it in case you get stuck in rain.

You could use rubber cement and coat the external interface and battery door with it. A more durable option would be to take the clock apart and coat it with Plasti-Dip. I used to own several RC cars and to make the electronic speed control completely waterproof I would take off the casing, coat the insides, put the casing back on and trim the excess. This works really well, but when I got into bigger cars I could only coat the outside because the internals would get too hot, and melt the coating.

But seeing that its only a small device this should work. You also could just coat the outside and cover everything except the display. It just means once the battery dies you'd have to take the Plasti-Dip off and re-apply.
