Hello from MI!

Hey Everyone,

I've actually owned my pregen Ninja 250 since I think about 2012-2013, but it has mostly sat in my parents' garage while I went from apartment to apartment after college. Now I've got a house (and more importantly, a garage!) of my own so I've got her back and started working on her and putting some miles on now that the weather's getting better.

(Autobot symbol courtesy of former owner, Transformers was the coolest thing at the time )

Recently added a phone mount and 2 USB charging ports for using spotify and Google Maps with the bluetooth setup I installed in my helmet, which has made a world of difference in how far from home I'm comfortable going haha.

Over the long weekend, I actually used a 20mm bolt instead of the oem (18mm?) bolt for the upper fairing and put a big ass hole in the gas tank. But I ran my VIN and it was eligible for the recall on the gas tank, so it's at the dealer now getting a nice new tank installed.

I love this bike, but as a 6'5" rider, my knees and hips start getting quite uncomfortable after more than an hour of riding. Are there any simple mods you guys know of for pregens to raise the seat, lower the pegs, or otherwise "straighten-out" the riding position?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi Tyler, welcome to Ninjette!

You can lower footpegs with this procedure: https://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Adding_lower_footpegs

Take seat to upholstery shoppe and they can add +2" of foam and re-cover seat.

But, taller seat will cause you to bend over more to reach bars. So you'll want to raise bars with some of these: http://www.powersportsfx.com/sa/cart...33F619FB382%7D

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!

I've gone ahead and ordered those Buell drop pegs from a dealership in MN (only place I saw online that had 'em). Not sure if any upholstery shops are open due to everything going on, but I'll call around, thanks again guys!

Also I tried to check out the "Member Map" but it gave me some weird error about needing a paid account, anyone know what's up with that?

Is there another place on the forum to find other local riders? I'd love to meet up with some of them (from a distance of 6ft haha).

Member Map no longer works due to map-provider going from free to paid mode for access. Best bet is to post something in Group Rides and Local Events.

Unlike that guide, you'll want to grind away both sides evenly for maximum-strength. Remove just barely enough for tight fit (photos showed they removed way more than necessary). Pegs do have some load on them when scraping on ground and hitting bumps.

Thanks for the tip, Danno. And thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Still waiting to get the Ninja back from the dealership - starting to get a little impatient haha

Hey guys, finally just got the bike back from the shop, safe to say I will never be utilizing their service department ever again

The new tank looks sweet but definitely a different shade of blue, at least it holds gas now haha!

I've got a long weekend for the 4th so I'll probably be mounting the new front tire and doing the drop pegs in the next couple o' days.

The shop also said my battery was dead and wasn't taking a charge. Not sure if that's true or if they were trying to upsell me a battery. I'll give it test this weekend and get a new one on order if necessary.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys! Glad to have her back now haha!

Good to hear you've got safe tank! Bummer recall was only for 2004-2007 bikes. I ended up getting used un-punched tank, but it's red instead of yellow.

Also good idea to get motorcycle smart-charger ~$10. Don't use car-charger as it'll fry your battery. Bike chargers typically have about 1-amp charging current and turns to float mode when battery's fully charged. Put battery on charger overnight, then do following.

Do you have multimeter? Do these tests to verify condition of battery:
1. battery voltage with bike OFF
2. battery voltage while cranking
3. battery voltage while bike is idling.

Don't want to be stranded out middle of nowhere and can't start bike. Although you can always bump-start it. Even bad battery typically have enough juice to power coils for bump-starting even if it's not powerful enough to run starter.

Thanks for the info Danno! Yeah, I've got a battery tender JR. for motorcycles and I usually leave it hooked up whenever I'm not riding, which is probably why I wouldn't have noticed if the battery was dying.

And yeah I've got a multimeter, I'll do the test you described. What voltages would I be looking for at each of those stages though?

Should get somewhere around these figures:

1. battery voltage with bike OFF = ~13v
2. battery voltage while cranking = ~11v, no less than 10v
3. battery voltage while bike is idling = ~14v

So I forgot to charge the battery over night but I did the multimeter test and I got the following #s:

Off: ~12.5v
Cranking: ~10.7v
Idle: ~14.1v

That means the battery's fine, right? It had no problem cranking on Sunday, and I was teaching my brother how to ride so there were pretty short run-times between stalls/shutdowns haha.

P.S. the guy from the shop said they "couldn't get more than 6v" from my battery, so IDK what the heck they were doing.

Hey Everyone,

Whoo, looks like I haven't been on the forums in almost exactly a year. Out having too much fun with the Ninja I guess haha. I took her out Sunday because we had a beautiful, sunny, 80*F day and I wanted to spend most of it on the road. Got about 2 miles from home and snapped the clutch cable. That was not a fun walk back, haha. Got a new one in the mail so hopefully I'll be back up and riding soon!

Well, I only procrastinated for 51 weeks, finally put on the Buell drop pegs and installed the new clutch cable! Photos attached. Took a lot longer than I anticipated, so I'll have to take it out tomorrow and dial in the new adjustments for the shifter and rear brake lever.

Meanwhile, the '82 Nighthawk 650 is back in the "Repair Bay" awaiting a new master cylinder and stainless steel brake lines. Working on the 'hawk has really made me appreciate the Ninja even more. It's never needed major hair-pulling-out repairs and always seems ready to go when I am.
