I'm back!!!

Well, it's been a long 9-month journey! Tech start-up I worked for in S.F. went 100% remote due to Covid-19 SIP orders. It worked out pretty well since all of our production is remote in Taiwan anyway. And all our customers and support is remote (Australia). So company decided on 100% permanent remote work. Except for some need to visit office for lab-work and soldering.

With that announcement, I went looking to move to Mesa, AZ to be closer to in-laws way back in Nov. 2020. We've got an 11-yr old nephew who's quite smart and fun and figured he's only got 2-years left before he becomes bratty teenager. Took A LONG time to find place, market was crazy with massive waves of Californians moving out there. Many places would sell for above market-value within week of being put on market. After 6-month of back & forth trips to look at places and missing out on places by just hours or being outbid, I finally found an undervalued place with horrible listing with depressing photography! Snapped it up by bidding +10% over listing and whew, got it!!! Finally! Escrow closed in record-breaking 18-days, so we had to hurry!

Moving took 3 more months with tonnes of packing and dumping stuff (we'd been living there for 10-yrs). Even with selling my Porsche, my wife's Scion xB, 2 Ninja 250s, tonnes of furniture and household goods, it still took TWO shipments of 28-ft trucks to get everything across. First trip, I hired movers to pack and unpack container.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize it was this kid's last day at moving-company and he just didn't give crap and did piss-poor job of packing and lots of stuff got damaged.

So next trip, I rented moving-truck and loaded everything myself! Before that, I sold my Porsche, my wife's Scion xB and 2x Ninja 250s. I repainted my race-bike and sold it to new track junkie.

She took it out to Thunderhill very next day!!! Looking pretty good for only her 2nd time out on track!!!

Also built up 1987 1st-gen I got in boxes.

Then sold it to Julian Farnam of A•N•D fame! He's currently building custom frame for race-bikes using RZ350 engine. Would be interesting how they do against my own RZ350-powered MC21 frame.

Finally whittled down enough to start loading 2nd moving-truck.

Filled front half with stuff, then locked it in with doors and plywood. Next came remaining bikes.

And filled rest of that space

Dang!

I see a yellow Ninja and that Interceptor is gorgeous! I love that red, white, and blue paint scheme.

Welcome back! Moving is indeed a big deal. We've lived here over 20 years. I dread the day we have to move and I'm hoping it's a long way in the future.

Smile

Thanks for warm re-welcome everyone!!!

Yeah, I'm never getting rid of VF500, I bought it new in 1986 and really love it. Stripped it down about 20-yrs ago and painted frame and forks black so it looked more cohesive. Got seat re-covered in black as well. Ended up looking less like some Tonka or Lego toy! A more serious bike...

I also picked up just before move, my dream bike! I wanted one in '86 when they 1st came out, but couldn't afford it. So got its baby brother VF500 instead. Then one popped up on Kijiji in Canada and I just had to have it. Here it is being loaded into lorry for transport. Took several months as I had to do tonnes of paperwork for CBP, DOT and EPA!!! Driver also got quarantined for 14-days while crossing border.

Arrived just in time for 1st moving truck. It came with all upgrades I would've done myself anyway, so bonus! Has Corbin seat, DMR rear-shock, CBR600F2 forks and 17" wheels!

Unloaded and staged at new place while I get garage ready.. Major monsoons hit right as we arrived!!!

Wow Danno, the old Honda collection looks really great! I've had a few. The view of that 750 in the back of the truck makes me think of my old F2. It really was the first "good" bike I had being that it was fast, reliable, capable of handling and stopping well, and I learned a lot while I owned it. You meet the nicest people on a Honda!

My husband had an '86 Interceptor. I loved that red, white, and blue but he had a problem with the petcock and fuel line and something else. He got it running, but it always felt funny riding it so he sold it. The kid who came to look at it got pulled over on his test ride for making an illegal left turn, and we had his drivers' license (as surety that he'd come back with the bike and all)... luckily the cop was cool and he had his military ID so he wasn't left hanging too hard.

And he did buy the bike, so all's well. I guess he got deployed or something because it showed up again for sale a few months later. I hope it found a good home.

Yeah, petcock tends to stick and leak petrol into carbs on these bikes. Along with leaking float-valves and you've got hydrolock situation. I got 2nd 1985 parts bike that had "seized" engine for dirt-cheap. Turned out entire crankcase was filled with petrol, hence "seized" engine that won't crank and locks up rear-tyre when trying to bump-start.

I ended up rebuilding petcock & carbs on that bike and gave it to my brother!

Yeah! I almost sold Interceptor to get F2. Really liked this '80s neon colour-scheme. But just couldn't do it!

Man the F2 is such a great bike. They really were on a different level, especially for the time. They hold up well today unless you're on a track racing fast riders on modern machines; on the street though they can't be improved on much. Simple to work on and faster than anyone needs to go. I got 40-something mpg with mine and never did see what the top speed was. It always got compliments.
My only complaint was that it would burn my inner right thigh unless I was wearing leathers.
