You bought a puppy, right?
Seriously, if you've got pics to post then you obviously bought the bike. Ride safe, and hopefully this doesn't damage your relationship with your mom. I hope you don't regret your decision in years to come. Last word... lying corrodes the soul. Man up and tell her about it. |

What about buying another bike behind my bike's back? I saw a 2000 mile duc 748 from 1998. Priced at $6K. Exotic looking bike, needs valves checked every 6k or so and new belt every 12K or so. Would be nice to ride the 250 6 days a week and break that baby out once a week.

My mother was very supportive. Of course, I was 27, so it's not like she had much say in the matter, but when I was a kid she had always told me that I needed to get a moped and said that she would try her hardest to do something beyond her means, like buy me a motorcycle if I memorized The Bible (something beyond *my* means). FWIW, I had never expressed any interest in motorcycles. Regardless, we lived on welfare so I knew that wasn't going to happen.
When I reached twice that age, needed transportation, and had enough cash saved to buy one outright (but not a car), I chose to get one because it was the only new (thus, assumedly, reliable) vehicle I could afford where I wouldn't have to finance it and it was excellent on gas. She thought it was a great idea. Now I'm on the other side of the country in SoCal, which is pretty much the only place where it could be your primary transportation year-round. |

You bought a car instead of a bike? At least it looks like a fun car. I just read through this thread now. I bought my first bike at 18, behind my moms back. She had been really happy that I was taking the MSF (canadian equivelant) course, and bought all the gear. Then she realized that I was getting pretty close to actually buying a motorcycle. I bought a 1991 CBR600 and kept it pretty well hidden for about a month. She found out... AAAAAnd I was in a lot of trouble. Needless to say, I didn't live at home for too much longer.
After my first accident on the bike i rode home with all the bits of fairing, mirrors and pieces stuffed in my backpack. She was in the driveway talking with a friend. I felt like a dog with my tail between my legs. She had been right to be worried. I was young and pretty stupid. Zoom ahead, I'm 24 now and she doesn't mind me riding now. She took the bike course and is looking to buy herself a motorcycle now. It only took 6 years to get her used to the idea. Oh, she also married a guy who had a VFR800 and started riding with him too. So, my story is kindof like a some-what successful behind the back purchase but my mom is VERY VERY forgiving.. And I had the financial ability to live away from home. Make sure you do get a bike in a couple years when she allows it because the feeling of riding a bike blows away driving any car.

I understand the Porsche and vette guys all want to take a spin in the infamous WRX.
You can do a heck of a lot more with a WRX than you can a 250r.... but that really is apples & oranges. Did they have the STI that year? I read an article last week that claimed the WRX is THE most expensive production car to insure (I don't think they looked at exotics). Interestingly enough, the vette convert is #10 on the list of CHEAPEST to insure.... it probably won't take long to figure out why. The funny thing is, as a natural skeptic, I had to test the facts in the article, logged into my account and ran quotes for a bunch of cars..... the article was spot on! Incidentally, the WRX (blue) is also given the most tickets, according to another article (again, user errors). I guess you could make the argument that this is a good opportunity to either prove your maturity by how you pilot that thing, or ensure you could never afford MC insurance. Choose wisely, enjoy, and have [safe] fun. |

This was mother approved, she told me "Im glad its a car and not a bike" I still owe 2k on this beast. But its super fun and really fast. I have to watch my ass so I dont speed. I use cruise control a lot so I dont go over 5 over the limit. It costs me 160 a month to insure this thing. But I want something sport to drive. I wanted a bike, and it wasn't going to happen. To afford college I need to live with my mom for now. Its the best decision. So I picked a car she approved of. Instead of a small fun-to-ride motorcycle I got a fast car. I dont speed, but accelerating is another story. : D This thing is a ****in blast and I love it.
Thanks everyone -Dave Why the last one? Why not...lol the ending to this CRAZY long thread Me and a hunting buddy got bored and I had recently shaved a mohawk to keep it for a day just to "Say I did" took this pic and it ended up bein pretty funny. lol

I'm happy for you man. Obviously your mother doesn't know what a WRX is, or that it will beat the pants of the Ninjette..... but we won't spoil it for you
I don't mean to piss you off, but the quote I got from my insurance company for adding a Ferrari Testarosa to my current policy (Ford Explorer, 2 drivers), was less than what you are paying for your WRX alone.... not a lot less, but you could pay your phone bill with the remainder. I'm not actually trying to piss you off, just encouraging you to grow old with a CLEAN record. Glad to hear you use the speed control (and that you take a little advantage of that scandalous turbo charger) So what does the shotgun and vagina-licking sign have to do with speed? Well, anyways I'm glad to see that another citizen of NJ has joined the resistance by being a gun owner.... I hear it is worse than Kalifornia there. |

Excellent choice! You have restored my faith in the young
I've always wanted a WRX. Would be a great car to rally in. You should see if there's a rally class in your area. I know in Washington, there's a class you can take with an unmodified car. It's to teach you how to drive like a rally driver, but without the danger to either yourself or the car. Here's a couple links for Washington and Oregon. I see your in New Jersey (Edit: Sorry, SOUTH Jerezy). I'd be surprised if there's not something similar. Also, you'll see a lot of WRX's in the rally car pics http://www.olympusrally.com/ http://www.oregontrailrally.com/ |
