Cool CBR250 Hugger on your Ninjette

I currently have run a modded Yamaha Byson Hugger from Indonesia on my Ninjette. This hugger is not very accessible option for those in the states and other countries so another option was needed. That's where the Honda CBR250r comes in. These new bikes came from the factory with a hugger installed and guess what, it fits with some minor mods! The CBR250r Hugger can be had for $10 plus S+H. A very cheap alternative!! It clears a 150 size tire fine too.

Byson Hugger vs CBR250r Hugger

The modifications needed:
Th mods needed for this hugger is similar to that of the Byson's but less cutting needed as the exhaust of the hugger is shorter compared to the opposite side.

1. You will need to notch a space to clear the rear tire alignment guide so the hugger will sit flush with the swingarm. After doing so, secure the hugger using the factory bolt from your OE chain guard:

2. A notch is needed to clear the factory chain guard guide.

3. You will need to trim this section to clear the frame and undertail. I have not tested the undertail/battery box clearance during suspension travel yet.

4. This is the exhaust side of the hugger. Here you can choose to hack half it off to clear the brake line and use the holes to zip tie the hugger down to the swing arm with the hugger's mounting holes.

Good job!

I really like people who go out of their way to test fit things. Kinda like that DIY zip-tie throttle mod.

Very cool.

And the best part is the whole thing is only $24 shipped. I got one sitting at home that I'm going to cut notches in and fit to a pre-gen swingarm. Hopefully I have enough space in front of the rear wheel so I don't have to cut off any of my wheel well

Only thing I don't like about the CBR250 hugger is that there's no definitive line to use for painting it like there is with the Byson hugger. I'll have to be creative if with the paint if I can get it to fit.

they're on backorder, and when I try to ship to canada their website comes up with a warning that has no text and I can't continue :/

I might just wait until I go to the Gap in may and have it shipped to the house there.

Dang, awesome find! Been looking for a good hugger but haven't been willing to pay like $100 for one... Just called the local Honda dealer here and I'll be off to pick on up for $12 this afternoon

Talking

Installed mine over the weekend on the wife's Green Machine, which is lowered 1.5". Absolutely no cutting required. Chain side back bolts right up. Ran the brake side right behind the brakeline and it clears the reservoir easy. Zip tied rear hole to the brake line loop to keep the hugger from sliding front to back. Then used two zip ties to hold it down to the swingarm. I did not have her try it out yet, but clearance to the battery box is close. Again, it's lowered so it may have more clearance on stock ride height with some added compression. Wife is a shorty so it is currently set at 1.

I would have experimented on my bike, but I already have the Scott's hugger and didn't feel like dealing with reattaching it. Overall, the CBR250 hugger is super easy to install and looks like a factory part. Only con is possible clearance issues. I will increase the rear shock to 2 and notch out the hugger to clear the battery tray if it becomes an issue.

BTW, it's so solid, I didn't need to use the front hole on the chain side. It kinda tucks behind the rearset so you don't even notice it.

This is good to know for me. I was planning on making some brackets out of brass strips, but I might not need to now.

I still need to figure out if this will clear the front-most section of my wheel-well, or if I have to hack a section of that off to get it installed.

The link I put in that posted was Cuongs sale thread. You might be able to work something out with him. I mean even if you pay shipping to Canada, that would still be a heck of a sight cheaper than $130, plus that would get the part off his hands. Win-win

ouch that shipping is harsh! I could have gone to my local dealership. I didn't even think to check State 8!! oh well. I still think $24 for a hugger is a pretty good deal. Plus it gives me a project to work on retrofitting it to my pregen...

I prefer the Byson hugger because it has better lines for painting and it reaches the full length of the swingarm, enhancing the look as if it were not so thin and rectangular (looks like two dinky 1x2" boards otherwise). I GREATLY prefer the Sportisi style that covers the whole swingarm with one that looks like it came from a completely different bike!

Just installed my CBR hugger, total cost was $13 (including tax) and about 30 minutes of modifying to fit since I took a different approach to retrofitting. Looks great! Even without modding it fits okay, it's just off center to the left a little bit. I have it fastened down by one of the original screws for the chain guard (the back one) and one zip tie on the right side. It's surprisingly sturdy with only the one screw in, but I zip tied the other side for the sake of more security. I can post pictures later of the parts that I grinded off to make things fit.

I'm running a 140/70 BT-003RS on it right now with lots of room all around, my first thought? Yes. With the modding of course. Without the modding you'll likely rub on the right side since it sits offset to the left

Yes, lots of room for 150/60..

Another install tip: I cut about 1 inch off the brake side hugger tip and tucked the end behind the brake hose loop. You may need to bend the loop wider a bit but it now fits better and helped center the hugger. Still used zip ties.

Lastly, since my wife's 250 is lowered 1.5", there was very little clearance between the hugger and bottom of the battery tray so I notched out about an inch of the hugger that sits under the battery tray. So far no rubbing and looks totally stock.

Good luck!

Here is another cheaper hugger that doesn't charge outrageously for shipping and is in stock:
http://www.2wheelpros.com/oem-parts/...-900-part.html

I'll have to contact my local dealer to see if they can get me a hookup

Nathan, I haven't looked you up on youtube yet, but did you end up posting an install vid?

Mine didn't even come in.. not sure what the hold up is but the dealership is taking forever. I was estimated to have it early last week...

Bloomington is a pretty sweet town with awesome roads. I grew up in Hammond/Gary though lol

Apparently this part is in super high demand. My dealership does not have it either, and 2WheelPro's backordered it via Honda until the 18th.

so mine sits a bit higher than the OPs pic, but I tried for a no-cut approach. I don't think I'm going to leave it this way, it's not really where I want it to be. I'm thinking about pulling it off and wrapping it in carbon fiber vinyl and then cutting it down some to make it hug the tire more.

I just ordered one with the local dealership today. I changed out my tires and the 140 was the smallest option for the rear. Well, the hugger i had was designed only for a 130 rear. i contacted the seller and he said i should be able to trim it to fit. so i trimmed it and it still rubs not the edges of the tire, but in the middle..there goes $160 ...now its a week wait until i can mount a new hugger on my bike

Well, the hugger i had was designed only for a 130 rear. i contacted the seller and he said i should be able to trim it to fit. so i trimmed it and it still rubs not the edges of the tire, but in the middle..there goes $160 ...now its a week wait until i can mount a new hugger on my bike
I'm confused... You rode your bike while the hugger was rubbing on the middle of the tire and didn't notice in time to not ruin the tire?!

I would think that the very first thing to do when installing a larger tire would be to inspect fitment before ever getting on the bike and placing your life in it's hands.
