IOM

The IOM was once the ultimate road race with the likes of Hailwood, Agostini, and Reed in competition. Definitely a widowmaker of a course.

As someone said when he was asked how the course was, he responded "We were going so fast we were sucking rabbits from the hedges"

Some people have STONES to ride there at those speeds.

always love the reactions people give when they discover the IoM TT in video form.

personally, I look forward to one day running in the race myself. After the appropriate preparations of course, there's no point in racing there if you don't have the skills needed down 100%

How are you preparing for this goal?

I'm building a track bike, though it is a 250, which I intend to use to get to a level where I am racing it competitively within the next 2-3 seasons. Once that bike is either totaled or I feel that I have truly mastered the 250 and there is absolutely nothing left for me to learn from it I'll get my hands on a track 600 and do the same thing again. Then do it again with a 1000. It's a long term goal but the level of skills that I require from myself will take a while and some serious $$$ to get to. I'll be ready in 8-10 years which puts me near my physical peak (around 30 years old) where I will also have the funding to head over and compete for a year, likely with my own bike unless I can secure a sponsorship as a newcomer. From there my goal the first time out will be to put down at least 120mph lap time, something that is much easier said than done despite the fact that the leaders put down 130+mph lap times regularly on the IoM circuit.
Basically my plan is to attain flawless bike control skills which cannot fail me, also to study the circuit like my life depends on it because it would.

Even if you don't want to race it. Ya gotta go see it. I spent two weeks there in 2008. These people are not crazy. They are people with the ability to focus at unbelievable speeds for two laps 37 miles each lap ant it takes less than twenty miners each lap. The mental stamina is super human. The greatest of them was Joey Dunlop. Personally my hero.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjkK...e_gdata_player

Include a couple of mad sundays in this, nothing beats track time on the track you plan to race

I actually intend to use mad sunday to determine if I am truly capable of running the course at any reasonable pace or if it is just too terrifying to race a 1000 on. I'll definitely scare myself shitless it's just a question of how I react to that afterwards, will I want to do it again and again like the racers do or will I back down. I won't know until I try, all I know is that I want to try.
